BEIJING, Sept. 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Fu Ying said Tuesday Premier Wen Jiabao's Europe trip aims to promote the two sides' comprehensive strategic relationship.Fu made the remarks at a press briefing at which she and Vice Foreign Minister Zhai Jun briefed the press about Wen's upcoming visit to Europe.Wen will pay an official visit to Greece, Belgium, Italy and Turkey from Oct. 2 to 9 at the invitations of Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou, Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.Wen will attend the eighth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and the 13th China-European Union (EU) summit from Oct. 4 to 6 as guest of European Council President Herman Van Rompuy, Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.The Greece visit is the first by a Chinese premier in 24 years. During his stay, Wen will meet George Papandreou and discuss China-Greece relations. The two leaders will also witness the signing of several cooperation agreements. Wen will also deliver a speech in the Greek parliament on China-Greece relations and China-EU relations."Coping with the financial crisis will be an important topic for talks between Wen and Greek leaders. We have a positive attitude about the measures taken by the European Union and the International Monetary Fund. We have noticed that the Greek government has adopted measures which have been effective. We hope Greece will recover soon from the difficulties," Fu said.Speaking highly of the role Belgium has played in promoting China-EU relations during its rotating presidency, Fu said China-EU relations will be on the top agenda of Wen's meeting with Belgian leaders.Wen will hold talks with Yves Leterme and meet King Albert II. The two countries will also sign deals on nuclear energy.During Wen's visit to Italy, he will have talks with Silvio Berlusconi and meet President of the Italian Senate Renato Schifani, and President of the Chamber of Deputies Gianfranco Fini. Premier Wen will also attend the opening ceremony of the Chinese Culture Year."There are lots of cooperation programs between China and Italy, especially in technology, environmental protection and trade. The two countries will sign some new deals during Wen's visit and some documents to map out future cooperation," Fu said.According to Zhai, Wen will hold talks with Recep Tayyip Erdogan and meet Turkish President Abdullah Gul during his visit to Turkey from Oct. 7 to 9.He will also meet people from business circles and hold seminars with people from cultural circles."China-Turkey relations have witnessed smooth development, and the two countries cooperate fruitfully in many areas. Cooperation in such areas as investment, transportation and energy are progressing steadily. BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Sunday arrived in northeast China's port city of Dalian, the first stop of his three-day China visit.This is Medvedev's second state visit to the country since he assumed presidency in May 2008.On Sunday, Medvedev will visit a memorial to the Soviet Union war dead and meet with veteran Chinese and Russian soldiers who participated in China's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945).During his stay in the city, the Russian president will stop by the Dalian Institute of Foreign Languages, where he will have brief discussions with Russian language professors and students. He is also slated for a meeting with leaders of northeast China's Liaoning Province.More important meetings are scheduled for Monday when the Russian leader visits Beijing. He will hold talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao and call on other Chinese leaders, including top legislator Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao.On Monday evening, Medvedev will travel to east China's metropolis of Shanghai, where, on the next day, he will meet with Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping and attend events marking the Russia Day at the ongoing World Expo, which runs from May 1 to Oct. 31.

BEIJING, Oct. 20 (Xinhua) -- China must improve the quality, accuracy and credibility of statistics to better serve the country's social and economic development, said Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang in a letter addressed to a ceremony on Wednesday in Shanghai marking the first World Statistics Day.A relatively standardized modern statistics system that conforms to China's national conditions and international standards have basically taken shape in China, according to the letter received by Xinhua on Wednesday.Li said that as China will soon enter into the 12th five-year development period (2011-2015), it must push forward the development and reform of statistics gathering to provide accurate and comprehensive information in a timely way.Li also said the Chinese government will continue to strengthen international exchanges and cooperation in the realm of statistics.The World Statistics Day, initiated by the United Nations, aims to promote knowledge about statistics among the public.
BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- China expects Japan to make joint efforts so as to maintain and advance the two nations' ties, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Ma Zhaoxu on Saturday.Ma made these remarks when asked to comment on a statement made by Japan's Foreign Minister Seiji Maehara who reportedly said on Friday that as the world's second and third largest economies, Japan and China should work together to continue pushing forward the two countries' strategic links."We have taken note of the statement. BEIJING, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- China National Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd. (CNCEC), one of the country's leading engineering, procurement and construction firms, said its net profit for the first six months of 2010 grew by 58.61 percent.Net profits totaled 653 million yuan (96 million U.S. dollars) while earnings per share stood at 0.13 yuan, up 20.37 percent from one year earlier, the company said in a statement filed with the Shanghai Stock Exchange late Sunday.CNCEC said its revenues during the first half of this year were valued at 14.57 billion yuan, among which project construction contracts accounted for 13.03 billion yuan, up 15.97 percent from one year earlier.The Beijing-based company has also made progress in overseas markets where revenues increased by 63.53 percent to nearly three billion yuan, while domestic revenues grew by 8.54 percent to 11.5 billion yuan, according to the statement.CNCEC attributed its strong performance to collective material purchasing, improved outsourcing and investment management, continuously reduced project costs and an effective human resources incentive mechanism.
