(AP) — The National Park Service says scientists are trying to determine the cause of death of an endangered whale calf that was found stranded on a beach on North Carolina’s Outer Banks.The young whale is considered to be “one of the rarest marine mammals” on earth, according to NPS.Biologists performed a necropsy on the North Atlantic right whale calf and took DNA samples Saturday.NPS at Cape Lookout National Seashore posted news of the whale’s death on its Facebook page.Right whales are critically endangered. CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) - One man is behind bars after police said he stabbed a man multiple times before leading police on a pursuit through North San Diego County.Carlsbad officers responded to reports of a traffic collision in the 6200 block of Paseo Del Norte at about 1:20 a.m. Saturday. When officers arrived, they saw a red truck speed away and fail to yield to police.The suspected driver was later identified as 28-year-old Gervin Giovanni Chavez.At the scene, police found a man with multiple stab wounds to his head, neck, and torso and a female who was uninjured. Officers pursued Chavez and later apprehended him in Oceanside after he collided with a road median.MAP: Track crime in your neighborhoodWitnesses at the scene told police Chavez began an unprovoked attack against the man while they were in the vehicle together. The man was able to get out of the vehicle while it was still moving before Chavez stopped and got out to chase him.Chavez continued attacking the man before a woman broke up the attack. Chavez then returned to his vehicle and led police on a pursuit.Police do not believe there are any outstanding suspects. Chavez has been booked into Vista detention center and charged with attempted homicide.The victim was transported to a nearby hospital where he is undergoing multiple surgeries for his wounds. 1363

By mid-afternoon on Wednesday, some of the streets of Louisville were filled with demonstrators upset by a Kentucky grand jury decision not to charge two of the officers involved in fatally shooting Breonna Taylor in her home in March.On Monday, the city was placed in a state of emergency with the expectation that protesters and law enforcement would clash. Many downtown businesses were boarded up and police officers were called back from vacations.As of 9 p.m. ET, the city went under a mandatory curfew.Thirty minutes before the curfew order went into effect, two Louisville officers were shot amid the protests. The officers were hospitalized but expected to survive, Louisville Metro Police said.Brett Hankison was the only officer charged among those who participated in the raid on the apartment where Taylor lived. Hankison’s charges, however, were not directly in response to Taylor’s shooting. He was charged with wanton endangerment for firing gun shots at other apartments.Two other officers, Jon Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove, are not facing charges. Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron considered their use of force justified.Hankison, Mattingly and Cosgrove returned fire during the raid after Taylor's boyfriend Kenneth Walker fired at the officers. Walker was arrested but had his charges dropped due to the belief that the officers were breaking into the apartment.Ben Crump, a civil rights attorney representing the Taylor family, called the lack of charges “outrageous and offensive.”“This is outrageous and offensive to Breonna Taylor’s memory.
