SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Friends of the Marine hit and killed in the Midway area said Monday the driver who struck him and left is a coward.Victor Molinar, 18, of Chicago had just graduated from boot camp and was stationed at Camp Pendleton about to start combat training. Ricardo Camacho met him in basic training and got the terrible news over the weekend.“He was a good kid, always say making people laugh. He had a good head on his shoulders. From the start when I met him, I knew he’d be a good Marine," said Camacho.Molinar was out with his friends Saturday night visiting the local night spots on Midway Drive and somehow got separated from his friends. They went to look for him and found his body in the road.Police say the driver who hit Molinar fled the scene. No suspect has been identified.“He was willing to give up his life defending his country and do all the right things and for him to do that and not even stopping to see who it was? It just sucks," Camacho said.Camacho told 10News the Marines have a buddy system and doesn’t know why Molinar was by himself. Police are looking for the suspect, but have little to go on right now. Camacho, who is having a hard time coping with his loss, told 10News he knows one thing about the suspect. “He’s a coward. Bottom line. Karma plays a big part in things, and he’ll get his. If he ran then he won’t come forward they’ll just have to find him. If he didn't do it then. He won’t come forward. Just like cowards do, they run.”Molinar's sister said she is devastated by the loss of her brother. He also leaves behind a girlfriend in Chicago. 1606

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Hundreds of San Diego Gas and Electric customers around the Point Loma area were without power on Black Friday.The outage was reported just before 10 a.m., according to SDG&E's outage map. The outage affected more than 1,000 customers in the Ocean Beach, Midway, and Point Loma areas.Lindbergh Field was listed under the affected areas, but the airport told 10News they were not aware of any issues.By 6 p.m., power was restored to all customers, except for 11 households, according to SDG&E.Crews say they needed to repair a piece of equipment.10News has reached out to SDG&E for more information. 637

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Environmental groups are increasing pressure on members of Congress to support the Green New Deal.On Friday, about two dozen demonstrators rallied outside Democratic Congressman Scott Peters' office in the UTC area to get him to sign on. "We're intent on pushing forward with what seems to be the strongest commitment to making important action on climate change by our government," said Karl Aldinger, a Fallbrook resident and member of the a group called Sunrise Movement.Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez introduced the deal in February. It lays out a series of goals, including getting the U.S. to 100 percent renewable energy by 2030. It also touches on issues surrounding education and wages. Peters, who represents the 52nd District, is the only San Diego County democrat not to sign onto the deal. He said he prefers a more direct approach through specific actions that can get bipartisan approval. Peters pointed to a series of bills that just passed out of committee."We don't want to scare away people from solutions," Peters said. "This is a problem we only have 10 or 12 years to solve. It can't be done just by Democrats, it can't be done just by liberals. It has to be done by everybody."Political analyst John Dadian says more moederate approaches could play a hand in the 2020 election."This dovetails into why we're seeing, in the last 10 years, what's increased every cycle, the rise of the independent, because the independents are saying I don't want to be Republican or Democrat, I don't always agree, I want to make my own decisions," he said. Dadian said what happens now could very well be remembered in 2020. So far, Democratic representatives Susan Davis, Juan Vargas and Mike Levin are supporting the deal. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — For the first time, the hunting license suspected Poway Synagogue shooter John Earnest presented to buy the rifle used in the alleged attack has been made public.The dates on the license show it was invalid at the time Earnest purchased the gun from a dealer in San Diego.Earnest, 19 years old at the time of purchase, needed a valid state-issued hunting license to get around a new California law that raised the age limit to buy a firearm to 21. RELATED: Poway synagogue shooting suspect returns to court for hearingAt a preliminary hearing Thursday, prosecutors shared an image of the hunting license, showing it was valid from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020. The attack took place April 27, 2019. Earnest used the hunting license to buy the semi-automatic rifle from San Diego Guns on April 13. He picked it up the day before the attack, which killed Congregant Lori Kaye and injured three others.
