PHOENIX— A man is accused of doing dozens of beer runs at Valley Circle K locations since late last year.Phoenix police report that on Aug. 15 they arrested 45-year-old Larry Pinkney for 60 thefts at two Circle K stores in south Phoenix. Police say from November 2017 until Aug. 15 of this year, Pinkney stole cases of Budweiser and Bud Light from Circle K. Nearly all of the thefts were from the store near 24th Street and Southern Avenue. Surveillance pictures and video allegedly show Pinkney taking the beer from the stores in each of the incidents. Police say during each incident he carried the beer in the same way and exited in the same direction. In many of the burglaries, he wore the same clothes. Upon his arrest, Pinkney reportedly told police that he sells the beer for a case. Circle K reports the total loss at over ,500.Pinkney has been charged with 60 counts of theft. 945

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A Pasco, Fla. woman was arrested after deputies say she was passed out drunk at the wheel of a parked car with a 5-year-old child in the back seat.20-year-old Sarah Nisse was found after the girl answered a phone call from her father.He called the 5-year-old via FaceTime and was able to see where the vehicle was parked.He found the car at 2509 Success Dr. and immediately removed his daughter from the vehicle and called 911.Fire rescue arrived and tried to administer aid to Nisse. She didn't say anything but raised a middle finger at them. When deputies arrived, Nisse appeared to be 'heavily intoxicated' and was taken to the Medical Center of Trinity.She blew a .276 and .272 three hours after the incident.Deputies say that without proper supervision, the 5-year-old was at risk of possible injury or death due to a large pond being next to where the car was parked, as well as due to the fact that Nisse was driving while under the influence.She was arrested for child neglect, violation of probation and DUI. She was on probation for willful child neglect in reference to a case in 2015 where she had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old juvenile. 1187

OXFORD, Mich. - Upland Hills School in Oxford, Michigan, doesn't look like your traditional classroom setting; that's because it's not. But it is where around 90 students will be learning come fall, including Alicia Stewart's two sons.The independent tuition-based school has always used a very "nature forward" approach to learning, and this year, due to COVID-19, will rely on that model even more.“I did venture out to Target just recently and I saw all the back-to-school supplies and I don’t really have to get any of that," Stewart said. However, the school does also offers online learning.“This is going to be my new classroom for the coming year," said teacher Robert Crowe, walking around one of the school's former gardens.Social distancing should be easy outdoors and class sizes are always pretty small, given that Upland Hills only has around 70 families.Crowe said he wants to make sure students can get their work done outside too.“To be able to focus outdoors is not easy. So the solution I hit on was for every child to have their own individual tent," he said. Crowe said being able to learn in the outdoors gives students a unique sense of agency, something that traditional classrooms don't always provide.Students may also learn in larger, four-season tents, which can be heated in the winter.The school also has an indoor space, in the event teachers and students would need to go inside.Lessons will usually circle back to nature in some way, so that students are learning basic skills like mathematics in a hands-on way, like building a greenhouse Himburg said.Tuition for Upland Hills is a little more than ,000 annually, making this out of reach for some families.For Stewart, whose kids started at Upland Hills last year, this approach to learning has been really special and offered her sons an education she doesn't think they could get elsewhere.Classes at Upland Hills begin Aug. 17.Statewide, many districts are still in the process of deciding what approach is best for teachers and students: online learning, face-to-face, or a combination of the two. PIKELOT ISLAND – Like out of a movie, three missing mariners were rescued from a deserted island in the Pacific after writing “SOS” in the sand.Authorities in the U.S. and Australia say the three men departed Puluwat Atoll on a 23-foot skiff last Thursday, intending to travel 21 nautical miles to Pulap, Chuuk.However, they never made it to their destination and were reported missing, according to the Anderson Air Force Base, Guam. A rescue mission was then launched.“Joint Rescue Sub-Center Guam received notification of an overdue skiff last seen in the vicinity of Chuuk and requested our assistance,” said U.S. Air Force Maj. Shaun McRoberts, 506th Air Expeditionary Aerial Refueling Squadron assistant director of operations. “Once notified, we began immediately working a plan to launch crews to locate the missing vessel.”After almost three hours into their mission and flying at about 1,500 feet, rescue crews located the mariners on the tiny, uninhabited island of Pikelot, Yap.“We were toward the end of our search pattern,” said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Jason Palmeira-Yen. “We turned to avoid some rain showers and that’s when we looked down and saw an island, so we decide to check it out and that’s when we saw SOS and a boat right next to it on the beach. From there we called in the Australian Navy because they had two helicopters nearby that could assist and land on the island.”Early in the morning on Monday, authorities say a small boat crew was launched and rescued the mariners.The sailors told officials that they ran off course while traveling and eventually ran out of gas, according to the Australian Navy. 1643
