SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- One man is behind bars after a series of events in Rancho Penasquitos, including nearly running over a firefighter. Around 2:30 p.m. California Highway Patrol received a report of a reckless vehicle on SR-76 near Cole Grade Road Monday. The blue Toyota RAV4 was reported after unsafely passing vehicles and speeding in the area. Shortly after, CHP reported that the driver - Falahi Abrahim - was involved in a crash and started a brush fire.Shortly after Cal Fire responded to the fire, 37-year-old Abrahim from fled the scene - nearly hitting the firefighter who was trying to help him.Police officers followed, but Abrahim refused to stop and a pursuit began. The pursuit continued westbound on SR-76 to I-15 and transitioned to I-15 Southbound. The vehicle continued to flee from officers on I-15 Southbound and exited the freeway at Camino Del Norte where the vehicle progressed eastbound.During the chase Abrahim failed to stop for two red lights at separate intersections and officers discontinued the pursuit in the interest of public safety.A San Diego Police Department helicopter continued to follow the car, communicating Abrahim's location to the CHP. At 3:11 p.m. the driver stopped near the 10000 block of Carmel Mountain Road. After a short foot pursuit, Abrahim was taken into custody and arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence of a drug and felony evading charges.The incident involving the assault of the firefighter at the collision scene is still under investigation. 1572

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Police are seeking the public's help identifying two armed robbery suspects they say hit a Carmel Valley gas station last month.A man entered the Shell gas station located at 3861 Valley Centre Drive just after 11 p.m. on Oct. 25, San Diego Police (SDPD) said in a release. The man asked the station clerk to use the bathroom and when he returned, he was armed with a machete and wearing a mask.The man demanded money from the cash register and the clerk complied, SDPD said.The man then fled westbound from the gas station.Police said the clerk noticed a woman driving a gold-colored pickup truck, believed to be a Toyota Tacoma with an extended cab, toward the man as he was running away. The clerk told police he had recognized the man and woman inside the store a few days prior to the robbery.The man described as white, in his late 20s to mid-30s, about 5-foot-7, and with medium build. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt with a white California bear on the front, blue jeans, a dark grey or blue baseball cap with "Ford" on it, and blue Keds shoes.He was also carrying a green backpack and has a wraparound band-style tattoo on his left arm.The woman was described as white, in her 40s, with long dark hair, and was last seen wearing a black shirt and black pants.Anyone with information is asked to call SDPD's robbery unit at 619-531-2299 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 1435

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Quiet neighborhood walks have turned disturbing for a growing number of women in Rancho Bernardo.Along Paseo Lucido, feet from a park, Lauren was walking her dog one early evening two weeks ago. She walked past the passenger side of an older, white, 2-door Toyota."The front windows were down and the seat was back ... looked over inside the car and saw he was exposing himself and touching himself," said Lauren.'He' was a large man in his 30s with short dark hair."He smiled when he saw me looking. I immediately looked away. Just very anxious and scared," said Lauren.Lauren took off for a neighbor's house. When she returned minutes later, the car was gone. About a week later - around 6:30 a.m. last Thursday - Robbie was blocks away on Avenida Venusto when a similar car, driven by a man with a similar description, pulled ahead of her and parked in a red zone."Kind of slouched back. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - President Trump's call for some teachers to be armed is sparking local debate.Linda bought her first handgun three years ago for personal protection. She's a local music teacher at elementary, middle and high schools who applauds the President's idea. "It's a good idea because we're going against violence people doing violent things. I can't protect all 30 of my students with pencils, erasers and rulers," said Linda.RELATED: Trump pushing to 'finally do something' on gunsEric Heins, President of the California Teachers Association, is in town for the state Democratic convention and says schools should not be a war zone. "To try and militarize a student campus by introducing more guns is insane. On a practical level, it wouldn't work," said Heins.He says teachers are simply not trained to deal with shooters armed with assault rifles, trying to figure out who and what to shoot at.RELATED: University in Florida to allow teachers, staff to carry guns through program with sheriff's office"It's a recipe for unintentional disaster," said Heins.But Linda, who owns concealed weapons permits in five states, says teachers can be trained. Monday was the filing deadline for people to filing claims against the organization.Team 10 has been reporting on sexual abuse allegations within the Boy Scouts for years. "He'd come at me at multiple times," former scout Mike told Team 10 in 2019. Mike declined to use his last name. Mike said the Assistant Scoutmaster sexual assaulted him during an overnight trip while he was sleeping. Mike's attorney, Andrew Van Arsdale, now represents around 80 former scouts in sexual abuse cases. He said throughout San Diego County, there are roughly 300 sexual abuse cases."What we're seeing is something on a scale we've never seen in any institutional abuse setting," Van Arsdale said. "It's hard. You picture this man you're talking to as a child and this monster on the other side doing these things to them."The Boy Scouts filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this year, which means the abuse cases will go through the bankruptcy court. The national organization will work to develop a reorganization plan to fund a trust for compensation. The former scouts alleging abuse will have to approve any future plan. "If they can't come up with real money, the survivors would rather see the cease to exist then because they won't allow them to get away with paying them nothing and then just going on as business as usual," Van Arsdale said.
