CHULA VISTA, CA. (KGTV) - For less than 00 anyone can buy a commercial drone with an incredible camera and fly it anywhere. It might sound like a good deal, but in the wrong hands, it can be deadly and destructive. ISIS has been using commercial drones to drop small IED's on our troops. And cartels have been using them to smuggle drugs and spot Border Patrol agents for human trafficking. But a San Diego company called Citadel has developed game-changing technology that acts like a drone killer. 521
CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - The Sweetwater Union High School District Monday handed out dozens of pink slips to administrators as the district deals with a million budget shortfall for the next school year. The board agreed during a meeting in Chula Vista Saturday to release up to 87 employees. Not every employee who receives a pink slip will lose their job. This fiscal year alone, the district will borrow million, in addition to the million it already owes; the money coming from Mello-Roos taxes. In December, the San Diego County Office of Education appointed a fiscal advisor with power to stay and rescind any financial decision made by the troubled district. RELATED: Timeline of Sweetwater's financial woes The district also announced in December 300 employees and teachers would take early retirement plans to help balance the budget. CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Frustration is growing after a second fire broke out at the Teresina Apartments in Chula Vista on Sunday night. Witnesses tell 10News they saw a group of teens playing in the park near the apartments and a few minutes later they noticed the fire. William Maher lives in the apartment complex. He tells 10News he was the one who made the call to the fire department. Maher says the teens were recording the flames and laughing. He says they ran away when he yelled at him. The fire was so close to the apartments that the heat shattered several windows and melted window blinds.Sunday night's fire is the second fire in less than three weeks in that same area. On October 25th, fire crews responded to a fire just feet away. Maher hopes police will find the teens before someone gets hurt.
