More than 100 law enforcement agencies have withdrawn from helping the Milwaukee Police Department at the Democratic National Convention, three weeks before the big event. According to the police chief, the agencies cited concerns over potential new policies related to crowd control.The Milwaukee Police Department requested the help of more than 1,000 officers from other law enforcement departments for security at the Democratic National Convention. Even though the event will be scaled-down at the Wisconsin Center due to the COVID-19 pandemic, losing many of these officers will make things more complex for Milwaukee police.Chief Alfonso Morales now has to deal with a new task with only three weeks until the DNC.He could not reveal the number of officers he’s lost for security reasons but says the reason agencies pulled out of the convention has to do with the Fire and Police Commission directives given to him last week related to crowd control. Specifically, they’re concerned over the directive to discontinue the use of tear gas and large amounts of pepper spray.“When you rule an unlawful assembly to help break up that crowd, once we deem them unruly, that’s a safe manner in doing so. (KGTV) -- Families in one South Bay city got one step closer to relief from skyrocketing rent Thursday as a group turned in signatures supporting a measure that could make its way to the November ballot. The National City Families for Fair Rent coalition has collected 3,500 signatures from registered voters in favor of implementing a program to stabilize rent.The initiative is called the National City Rent Control and Community Stabilization Ordinance.In order to get the measure on the November ballot, the coalition needs the signatures of 2,300 registered National City voters.Researchers say the measure is important because National City is one of the last safe havens for families struggling to pay rent. "It is one of the last places, sort of the last refuge for families struggling to get by have been able to afford to rent," said Dr. Peter Brownell,Research Director at Center on Policy Initiatives.The city council can now take one of three actions. Enact it without sending it to the ballot, send it to the ballot or request a report from city staff.If a report is requested, the council will have to reconvene and take one of the first two options within 30 days. 1220

NATIONAL CITY (CNS) - Authorities Tuesday released the name of a man being sought on suspicion of fleeing the scene of a four-vehicle crash that killed another driver on Interstate 5 in National City last weekend.The crash on northbound I-5, south of Mile of Cars Way, happened around 4:50 a.m. Saturday, California Highway Patrol Officer Jake Sanchez said.A 2017 Toyota Tacoma pickup was traveling at high speed when the driver veered into the center median to pass a slower vehicle and struck a parked, unoccupied 1996 Nissan 200 coupe, Sanchez said.RELATED: Fatal National City crash shuts down northbound Interstate 5The pickup overturned after hitting the Nissan, which was pushed into the side of a passing vehicle, the officer said. The truck and the Nissan came to a stop blocking several traffic lanes.A 2003 Honda CRV then struck the Toyota, according to the CHP.
