She was inside her home, heard a commotion and saw her 15-year-old tabby Tyler leap onto the patio, before running into the house. As McFarlane stepped out, she heard an ominous sound."It was just a loud, huge rattle," said McFarlane.She grabbed her other cat Tiger and tossed her into the house, away from the source of the rattle. "Behind the hose, the snake was coiled and hissing. The tail was rattling," said McFarlane.McFarlane ran inside and looked for Tyler."Almost didn't want to find him, because I didn't want to see what I was going to find. When I found him in the living room, he was stumbling over and drooling. Where the snake had bit him on the face, his eyes were bloodshot red," said McFarlane.She rushed Tyler to a nearby veterinarian, but the antivenin treatment wasn't enough. Tyler was put down that night."I still cry. It's devastating," said McFarlane.The next day, the snake, a 3-to-4-foot Pacific Coast rattlesnake, was found and relocated.This year, rains have delayed the first rattlesnake sightings by several weeks. But experts believe those rains could lead to a big snake season. More rain means more food for rodents and other snake prey. According to a study published in Clinical Toxicology, rattlesnake bites in the state jump more than 10% after rainy seasons. Back in Poway, since the attack, McFarlane has begun taking out all the trees and plants where snakes could hide. She's also ordered additional fencing to fill in the gaps and installed a device that emits sound waves to ward off snakes. She has three other cats."Will just be watching them a lot more carefully," said McFarlane.McFarlane says her ordeal shows rattlesnakes can turn up anywhere. (KGTV) — A Poway High School student has been arrested for allegedly making threats to shoot classmates.Friday, the parent of a Poway High student reported several threats were made by another student, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department.The student, who was not named, was in an argument with a group of students and threatened to bring a gun to school and shoot the students, SDSO said.Deputies responded to the student's home but did not find a firearm at the home.The student was taken to Juvenile Hall and charged with making criminal threats.SDSO reminds parents and students that deputies investigate all schools threats and encourages them to report any perceived threats to authorities. 754

Popular digital marketplace Groupon has changed its cancellation policy after some people complained it was too restrictive.Before, once you purchased something in the marketplace, you had 24 hours to cancel your purchase. However, some businesses changed their hours of operation or how many people the business could support at once thanks to the pandemic, so customers would be losing their money on these purchases.Now, Groupon offers customers 72 hours to cancel any purchases, just in case. Even with the extended grace period though, some say it's still a good idea to call ahead and double-check how a business is operating."Figuring out what the business looks like, have their hours been affected, are they temporarily closed because of COVID and if they are open it’s not a bad idea to call and see if they are honoring the group because so many businesses are being affected by COVID," Sara Kemerer, a Tri-State public relations specialist with the Better Business Bureau, said to WCPO.On its coronavirus update page, Groupon said if your voucher was extended past its expiration date, you'd receive an email with the new expiration date.Groupon also said you can check your My Groupons on your account to see if the expiration date has been extended.
