SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Police Saturday were asking for the public's help in locating an elderly woman who went missing from her son's Mira Mesa home.Martha Carrington, 83, was seen leaving her son's apartment in Casa Mira View, east of Westview Parkway and north of Mira Mesa Boulevard, between 10:30 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday, San Diego police said.Carrington suffers from schizophrenia, high blood pressure and the early stages of Alzheimer's disease, officers said.Her family doesn't believe she took any money with her, and she has no cell phone.Carrington was described as black and about 5-feet-8-inches tall. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency announced Thursday that it received .5 million in federal funding to support housing vouchers to unsheltered military veterans.The county will use the ,520,346 grant to issue 175 housing vouchers to veterans throughout the county. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded the grant to the county HHSA through its Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing program, which supports rental assistance, drug and alcohol counseling and financial education for veterans and their families."This grant is good news for our unsheltered veteran population," said HHSA Housing and Community Development Services Director David Estrella. "The funds will secure a stable place to live for men and women in our community that have sacrificed so much."FACING IT TOGETHER: On the edge of homelessness in San DiegoHUD also awarded a VASH grant of nearly .8 million to the San Diego Housing Commission earlier this week. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The San Diego Humane Society announced Wednesday that it will offer refunds to San Diego residents who overpaid for certain services between July 2018 and last week. Humane Society officials recently determined that some residents paid fees that were higher than the amounts the city of San Diego adopted on July 1, 2018, for local animal services. The organization plans to contact and offer refunds to residents affected by the overcharging that occurred between July 1 last year and Nov. 19 of this year. The organization also offered discounted services to residents via promotions intended to increase animal adoptions and make it easier to adopt a pet. Residents who paid for animal services at discounted prices will not be contacted, according to the Humane Society. 800
