(KGTV) — A local mother said her son and another teenager were attacked during a Black Lives Matter protest in Ramona.Heidi, who wanted to use only her first name, said her son Miguel had been peacefully protesting during the first week of June. Miguel recently graduated from high school. “I feel like our new generation is going to change something in the future,” he said.During the protest on June 5 in Ramona, he and his mother said men attacked him and his friend. She said the attack was unprovoked. Miguel said he moved his friend out of the way and that’s when the same man attacked him.“He hits me, I try to grab him so he won’t go away,” Miguel said. “Next thing… I get hit in the back. I was unconscious after that.”Heidi said the second hit came from a different man. She was at home when the Sheriff’s Department called her. “As a mother, it was very heartbreaking,” Heidi said.This is the second attack on protesters caught on camera that ABC 10News has covered recently. On June 7 in Imperial Beach, a man sucker-punched Marcus Boyd, a local businessman.Heidi said Miguel went to Pomerado Hospital with a concussion, sprained neck, and jaw. She is disappointed with where the Sheriff’s investigation stands. “Our officer was very, very nice. Are they doing all we think they should do? No.” Heidi said.Miguel plans to go to EMT school and eventually become a law enforcement officer. He said despite being attacked, he would still protest for causes he believes in.“I don't want my son to get hurt. but that being said, I'm not raising a man that's going to be afraid to voice his freedom of speech and liberty,” Heidi said.A Sheriff’s spokesperson told ABC 10News: “Deputies from the Ramona Sheriff’s Substation took a report about this incident. (CNS) - The San Diego Humane Society's Project Wildlife Team will release a rescued mountain lion cub to her new home Friday, a little more than a month after she was found on the brink of death.The SDHS team at the organization's new Ramona Wildlife Center will transport the healthy cub to the Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center in Scottsdale, Arizona, where she will be able to grow up around other orphaned cubs her age.The cub was originally spotted by firefighters from the Vista Grande Fire Station near a road in Idyllwild on Sept. 2. She was found barely conscious, emaciated, dehydrated, weak and experiencing tremors. She weighed only 10.5 pounds.RELATED: Project Wildlife nurses dying mountain lion cub back to healthAfter two months of intensive care from the Project Wildlife's Ramona team, including daily fluid therapy, medications, and carefully monitored transitions to solid food, the cub has nearly doubled in weight to 22 pounds, and is now thriving and healthy. According to the Mountain Lion Foundation, adult female mountain lions can weigh anywhere from 80 to 130 pounds.The cub is the first wildlife patient admitted at the Ramona campus since San Diego Humane Society's Project Wildlife took over the Wildlife Center from the Humane Society of the United States on Sept. 1.As of April of this year, mountain lions gained temporary endangered species status from the state Fish and Game Commission. The state estimates around 500 mountain lions still call Southern California and the Central Coast home.According to the humane society, mountain lions typically stay with their mother until they disperse to live a solitary life at around 12-18 months of age. The age of the cub in Ramona was not immediately available. SDHS also said it was unsafe to return a young mountain lion to the wild if found injured or orphaned as a kitten.Project Wildlife worked with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to monitor her progress and when stabilized, to ensure she had a good permanent home at a qualified facility. 2071

Residents and businesses near a dam in North Carolina appeared to have dodged potential disaster Wednesday after an emergency at the location was called off.Earlier, heavy rains and a landslide in the western North Carolina mountains "compromised the integrity" of Lake Tahoma dam and triggered urgent calls for mandatory evacuations.Emergency officials said the dam was "at risk of imminent failure" and the weather service extended a flash flood warning for central McDowell County until 12:30 p.m.The National Weather Service cited reports early Wednesday from McDowell County emergency management officials that "water is spilling around the sides of Lake Tahoma dam. Evacuations ongoing south of the dam."But later, McDowell County emergency officials said Lake Tahoma had been inspected and deemed safe and a mandatory evacuation was halted. "The emergency at Lake Tahoma has been canceled. The evacuation order is no longer in effect.
