SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A strong series of earthquakes struck Baja California Monday morning, but was felt throughout San Diego, according to United States Geological Survey data.The first tremor,was reported at 8:09 a.m. and was centered in San Vicente, Mexico -- about 93 miles south of San Diego, according to the USGS. The quake registered 4.4-magnitude.The jolt was followed by two more in quick succession at 8:30 a.m. and 8:31 a.m., both registering 5.2- and 5.1-magnitude respectively, USGS reported.No known injuries or damage have been reported.Various people reported feeling the quake all over Southern California, including numerous locations in San Diego, some as far north as Escondido and east in El Centro. 727

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- After being diagnosed with congenital heart disease and having four open heart surgeries and a pacemaker, Cristi Walker was about to have a heart and liver transplant until doctors at UC San Diego wanted to try something else, a pulmonary valve replacement."We got outta surgery I had one question for my husband, what was it? He said 'it was a cow valve' and I thought my life came full circle and a cow made it so I could live a longer life," said Walker.She received a pulmonary valve from a cow and that was back in 2017. Since then, she said she's never felt more happy and healthy."I felt so connected, happy, present and I knew I wanted to share it with others and that’s the idea where Heart Haven came," said Walker.She acquired land, adopted animals and was finally ready to open Happy Heart Haven, a non-profit animal sanctuary in Valley Center with pigs, horses, lambs and of course, cows."This is a place where people can leave all their troubles behind and they can be in the here and now, live in present and fill their heart with joy that animals can bring."She said she was nervous to open amid a pandemic, "What if this fails? SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A woman says her ,000 custom road bike was stolen from her driveway last weekend while she was getting ready to go for a ride.Josie Fouts is a cyclist who recently competed with Team USA at the Para Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru.Due to the amputation of her left hand at birth, her bike requires custom elements including a modified handle and special braking mechanism.The frame is black and blue Fuji Supreme.Fouts said she had left the bike on her driveway on Saturday, Sept. 14 while she was getting ready to go on a ride. She had gone inside to put on her shoes but when she came back the bike was gone.“I heard the back wheel click.” Fouts remembered thinking, “I thought it was my friends coming to see me.”It wasn’t.Anyone with information about the bike is urged to call the Adams Avenue Bike Shop at 619-295-8500. 855

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A water culvert in Logan Heights overflowed Thursday night due to heavy rain, leaving neighbors with a mess Friday, many homes destroyed from all the water.Ruben Cortez’s home got filled with about a foot of water. Initially the water just piled up outside his sliding glass door, “the water was up to here so it looked like I was inside an aquarium”. After 20 minutes water came through the front and back doors, soon filling the entire house.Cortez and his wife are remodeling their home. One week ago they installed new flooring in their bedroom. After the flooding, the floor is completely ruined.The rest of the house has tile flooring and dirt and mud everywhere.His neighbors are also dealing with similar issues. Many parked their cars on the street and during the flooding the water filled up to the steering wheel.Most people in the neighborhood, along with Cortez himself, don’t have flooding insurance. He tells 10News, “its like getting snow insurance you don’t think anything like that is going to happen and this flood wasn’t really a typical flood, it was part of the drain that came out and flooded. You don’t think of those things”. Cortez wasn’t only worried about his own home, he’s also the pastor at the church next door. While the church was okay, the children’s classroom had water damage. The water also filled between a foot to two feet in the rooms.Left with a laundry list of things to fix, remodel and clean, Cortez tells 10News, “just count your blessings and the bad things as they come in, just face them one at a time." 1581

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A woman visiting San Diego to spend time with her daughter is dead after being struck by a car near San Diego State University Friday evening. San Diego Police Department says the woman was hit at the 4800 block of College Avenue just south of Montezuma Road in the College Area at approximately 7:45 p.m. The 48-year-old female victim was transported to an area hospital where she died. Police say the victim was not using a crosswalk when she was struck in the number two northbound lane of College Ave.The driver fled the scene according to SDPD but returned about an hour later.The driver is a 40-year-old female and detectives say they are still determining if this will continue to be classified as a hit-and-run.Police expect the intersection to be shut down for several hours.
