(KGTV) — Crews were searching for a Marine who hasn't returned from a skiing and hiking trip to the Sierras. First Lt. Matthew Kraft began his trip on Feb. 23 at the Kearsarge Pass trailhead, just west of the Independence, Calif., in Inyo County, according to the 1st Marines Division. He was scheduled to end in Bridgeport, Calif., on March 5. Kraft's skiing and hiking trip was set to cover the Sierra High Route, the Marines Division said.Crews are also trying to locate Kraft's rental car, a gray 2006 two-door Jeep Wrangler. A search and rescue effort involving Inyo County, Mono County, and Fresno County sheriff's departments was underway Saturday. 664

(KGTV) - Authorities in Northern California have issued an arrest warrant for a former Southwestern College football player after he failed to appear in court in a sexual assault case.The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office said 25-year-old Raul Sierra failed to show up for two hearings, including one on March 7.The former Southwestern College and Humboldt State University student-athlete was arrested in 2016 for a sexual assault that officials say occurred in a campus residence hall at HSU in 2015.Sierra was charged originally with acquaintance rape “by use of drugs” in 2016 after taking a plea bargain. However, subsequent court records show that Sierra pleaded no contest to lesser charges of felony false imprisonment and misdemeanor assault in 2016.Court records show that Sierra is supposed to serve community service and undergo counseling through a court program.Sierra attended Castle Park High school before playing at Southwestern College and walking-on at Humboldt State University. 1031

(CNN) -- Two suspects escaped from a Northern California jail early Sunday, the Monterey County Sheriff's Office said.Santos Samuel Fonseca, 21, and Jonathan Salazar, 20, were being held in the Monterey County Adult Detention Facility awaiting trial on unrelated murder charges, the sheriff's office in a message on Facebook. The two face other felonies, authorities said.The sheriff's office didn't say how the men escaped, but they said the means of escape is under investigation.The pair had been in custody since 2018. (KGTV) — A man has died after falling into a river at Yosemite National Park on Christmas Day.Few details about the man's death were released Friday by the park. A park spokesman told the AP that a statement was not issued sooner and the investigation was taking longer than usual because of the government shutdown.The man reportedly suffered a head injury on Dec. 25 in the Silver Apron area, between Vernal and Nevada Falls, according to ABC affiliate KGO.RELATED: Government shutdown affecting air travel, national park safetyPark rangers arrived at the scene within an hour and removed the man from the water. Though they began first aid immediately, the man died from his injuries.The death is the third at a national park since the government shutdown began. A woman was killed by a falling tree at Great Smoky National Park on Dec. 27 and the body of a missing 14-year-old girl from California was found on Dec. 24 after what appeared to be an accidental fall at Horseshow Bend Overlook in Arizona's Glen Canyon Recreation Area.The Associated Press and KGO-TV contributed to this report. 1103
