ATLANTA, Ga. – The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said Friday that it’s unlikely that a single brand is responsible for the outbreak of lung illnesses associated with vaping. As of Wednesday, the CDC says all 50 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands have reported 2,291 patients hospitalized with EVALI, the name given to the mysterious illness. A total of 48 deaths have occurred in 25 states and D.C., according to the CDC. That’s 2% of total reported cases. Since February, the largest number of hospitalized EVALI patients was reported during the week of September 15. Since then, the CDC says there has been a steady decline in hospitalized EVALI patients reported weekly to the CDC.Because most patients reported using THC-containing products before noticing symptom, the CDC recommends that the public not use e-cigarette, or vaping, products that contain THC.While health officials don’t believe one brand is to blame for the outbreak, they say “Dank Vapes” is the most frequently reported product brand, used by 56% of hospitalized EVALI patients nationwide. With that said, the CDC says regional differences in THC products have been noted. TKO and Smart Cart brands were more commonly reported by patients in the West region compared with other regions.“The nationwide diversity of THC-containing products reported by EVALI patients highlights that it is not likely a single brand that is responsible for the EVALI outbreak, and that regional differences in THC-containing products might be related to product sources,” wrote the CDC in a report.Although it appears that vitamin E acetate is associated with EVALI, the CDC says many substances and product sources are being investigated, and there might be more than one cause. An Oregon casino and resort announced it is temporarily closing after learning that one of its employees is a "presumptive positive" for coronavirus. The Wildhorse Resort & Casino said the closure will give their business an opportunity clean the facility. The closure affects the complex's hotel, theater and convention center. The news comes as cases in the Pacific Northwest have begun piling up in recent days. "In an abundance of caution, Wildhorse Resort & Casino will close immediately to complete a thorough and deep cleaning as a response to reports of a presumptive positive case of Covid-19," the casino said in a statement on Monday. "Updates will be posted at wildhorseresort.com regarding the reopening schedule. The closure includes the casino, convention center, hotel, Cineplex, Children's Entertainment Center, and restaurants. Authorities are trying to figure out how bricks of cocaine worth more than million wound up in banana shipments delivered to three grocery stores in Washington state.The drugs were found Sunday at Safeway stores in Woodinville, Bellingham and Federal Way.Produce workers at the Woodinville store were putting the bananas out on the sales floor when they saw something strange, said Sgt. An Iranian beauty queen who has spent almost two weeks inside Manila's international airport says she will be killed if she is sent back home and is seeking asylum in the Philippines.Bahareh Zare Bahari, a contestant in the recent Miss Intercontinental pageant in Manila, claims Tehran is attempting to silence her because of her public stand against the government.In a press release last week, the Philippines Immigration Department said the international police agency Interpol issued a worldwide request to arrest Bahari, known as a red notice. The statement did not specify which country requested the red notice, but Bahari told CNN that an immigration official told her Iran requested one in 2018."I have been living here since 2014 and I've not gone back to Iran. I explained to them many times, how can I have a criminal case in Iran when I've been living here?" she told CNN by phone.Bahari said she has been confined to a passenger room in Terminal 3 of Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport since she arrived from Dubai 12 days ago. "I'm really mentally sick," she said, adding that the uncertainty over her case is wearing her down.Bahari believes she is being targeted for supporting the exiled Reza Pahlavi, the son of the Shah of Iran overthrown in the country's 1979 revolution.The beauty queen blamed the situation on Iranian authorities, saying it came up because she used an image of Pahlavi and the flag of the former Iranian monarchy as props during a recent competition.
