DENVER, Colo. — A toddler, child, and three adults died in a house fire in Denver where arson and homicide are suspected, according to initial reports from the Denver Fire Department and Denver Police Department.Around 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, a Denver police officer called the fire department to report smoke along the 5300 block of N. Truckee Street, said Capt. Greg Pixely with the Denver Fire Department. This call was followed shortly afterward with several residents calling 911 about a fire in the neighborhood, which is near the southeast corner of Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge.Pixley said police arrived to the home, located at 5312 Truckee Drive, around 2:55 a.m. and made a valiant effort to try to help the people still inside from the "very significant fire."He said the officer who attempted to rescue people from the home was pushed back due to the heat from the fire.Pixley said according to initial reports, a toddler, child and three adults died in the fire and all five were found on the lower part of the home. Three people who had been on the second story of the building were able to evacuate on their own. Pixley said firefighters reported that the individuals jumped from the second story. Their injuries are unknown.DPD Division Chief Joe Montoya said evidence indicates this was an arson, so police will investigate the case along with the fire department. Montoya said he's unable to discuss details about the evidence as of Wednesday morning.Montoya said he believes there was one person who was near the front of the home whom police were able to retrieve but it was too late.Pixley said firefighters worked to reduce the threat of the fire spreading to the two neighboring houses. DENVER — A former teacher at East High School in Denver was arrested after accusations she smoked marijuana with her students during a party at her Denver home. Rachel Farley, 29, was taken into custody Monday on suspicion of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a class 4 felony. According to an arrest affidavit, Farley invited students from her class to her home on August 18, 2017, to decorate clothing for Freshman Day. At some point during the event, she brought out marijuana and began smoking it with her students, the document reads.In February of this year, police say they were dispatched to the school after a student reported that Farley had been providing and consuming marijuana with her students at her home.Police interviewed nine students as part of the investigation and “multiple students admitted to smoking with the suspect,” the document read. Farley resigned from East High School on August 31, 2017, according to a statement from Denver Public Schools. The statement stresses, “there was nothing notable about her resignation - she simply resigned.”After her resignation, DPS says she had been working as a volunteer in the music and drama department at the school. But after the allegations surfaced in February, she was “barred from volunteering for, contracting with or being employed by Denver Public Schools in the future.”Farley was listed as still being in custody at Denver City Jail as of Wednesday morning.  1502

DENVER, Colo. — A Colorado man is trying to find the silver lining in the wildfires by turning his photography into an opportunity to help those affected most.Jeremy Janus was driving back to Denver from Rocky Mountain National Arsenal Friday and he couldn’t believe his eyes.“I saw the smoke plume coming toward Denver and as much as it pained me I knew I had to take photos of it,” Janus said.Janus captured four photos of the smokey skies enhancing the beauty of the sunset.“This photo is called the “Nature That Binds Us,” Janus said. “While I knew these trees were going to be fine, far off in the distance there is also a lot of wildlife and nature that’s also getting destroyed.”He got into photography four years ago to heal a battle with depression and anxiety. Now he runs his own business called Jeremy Janus Photography.“Because of my background where I came from in photography, being a light in the darkness, how do you make positive situations out of bad ones?” Janus said. “I don’t want to profit off of devastation.”Janus has agreed to sell the photos and donate the money to Denver7 Gives.Denver7 is working with United Way of Larimer County and Community Foundation of Boulder County to ensure every dollar raised helps Coloradans who have lost so much.“My heart broke just seeing this because it made me think about all the people affected by it, all the wildlife, wilderness,” he said.The photos start at . DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) -- Scott Eastwood was caught on video taking down signs as Del Mar residents protested a proposed luxury resort Sunday. A protestor, Spencer Gobar, who confronted Eastwood in the video, told 10News that the actor identified himself to the group as an official from the city.Eastwood reportedly told demonstrators to take down signs and banners at Del Mar Plaza. However, Gobar said she recognized Eastwood as soon as she saw his face, having seen him numerous times around the area. She asked him by name to stop trying to remove the sign. Eastwood then walked away as the protestors heckled him about his actions and about his famous father, Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood."It all happened so fast," Gobar told 10News. "The last thing I was expecting was for this D-list celebrity to show up and try to dismantle the sign."Eastwood owns at least one business in the North County, a clothing company based in Encinitas. However, it is not clear why he wanted the protest signs against Del Mar Measure G removed. DENVER, Colo. — It's been a long time coming for former Denver officer Daril Cinquanta, but persistence paid off.“I’ve been tracking this guy for 46 years,” Cinquanta said of fugitive Luis Archuleta.Their lives crossed paths almost 50 years ago in Denver, when Cinquanta was a rookie officer for the Denver Police Department. Cinquanta pulled Archueleta over for an ID check. When Cinquanta went to check for weapons, the two began fighting and Archuleta shot Cinquanta. Archuleta got away.“I took it personally, I won’t deny. So what better thing to do than chase him?” Cinquanta said.Eventually, Archuleta was arrested and convicted but escaped prison. Forty-six years later, Archuleta was still on the run and Cinquanta continued to chase him until earlier this summer, when Cinquanta got a tip.“On June 24, I get a phone call. This person says, ‘You know, I’ve been thinking about it, I’m going to tell you where your guy is who shot you.’ Out of the blue,” Cinquanta said.Archuleta was arrested earlier this week.
