Briscoe Cain went to Facebook after seeing a homework assignment regarding U.S. President Donald Trump.The lesson was teaching 7th-grade students how to inference using 10 student-written essays at Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District. The assignment required students to read an excerpt from "Trump Against American Values" by Parker, and then answer the questions that followed. The first question asked, "Which of the following conclusions would the author most likely agree with?" The answer to the questions was, "Donald Trump should not be president."The second question asked what the reader would infer from reading the passage. The answer being, "Mexican Americans are the major group upset with President Trump."Cain said in his Facebook post that the superintendent of the district, Randal O'Brien, is aware of the issue and has taken corrective action. "It is our understanding the [sic] he and his administration have done all that state law allows them to do at this time," Cain said. "Superintendent O’Brien is and remains the right man for the job."Cain was made aware of the post by Chris Felder, a concerned parent at the school. “This was an assignment my 7th grade daughter received that I found to be very out of place to say the least," Felder commented, according to Cain's post. "This type of non-factual rhetoric has no place in our schools regardless of who the president is. My children have experienced great teachers in the classroom, but have also had to put up with those who see their role as indoctrinators, not educators. As a fellow graduate of Goose Creek ISD, I’m embarrassed that this is what our District tolerates.”Cain went on to say that no teacher should attempt to force their beliefs on students, and the teacher should be stripped of her title. Apple is recalling 814,000 wall adapters because they can break and pose an electric shock risk.The recall involves three-prong AC wall adapters included in the Apple World Travel Adapter Kit. The kits contain three-prong and two-prong AC wall plug adapters that fit different electrical outlets worldwide.The recalled adapters were made for use primarily in the United Kingdom, Singapore and Hong Kong and were also sold with Mac computers and iOS devices. They were sold online and in electronic stores nationwide from January 2003 through January 2015.The recalled three-prong AC wall plug adapters are white with no letters on the inside slot where it attaches to an Apple power adapter. Redesigned adapters are white with gray on the inside portion that attaches to the power adapter.Consumers with the adapters should immediately stop using them and contact Apple for a free replacement.Apple has gotten six reports from other countries of wall plug adapters breaking and consumers being shocked. CANTON, S.D. – No matter where you live in the United States, debt can play a big role in your life. Sarah Woods of Canton, South Dakota, has battled debt nearly her entire life, almost two decades. “Debt seems like almost a constant way of life,” said Woods.But life, some might argue, wasn't fair to Woods.“Within three months I got married, found out I had cancer and also had our first child,” said Woods. “So, you take three of the biggest things that could possibly happen in our life and roll them into your early 20s, I mean you’re going to start out on the wrong foot and since then it’s just been one struggle after another.”Woods and her husband now have three boys and taking care of them isn’t cheap. Woods says some months their pantry's been bare.“To actually have to reach out and say no, we are personally struggling is a hard one,” said Woods.Lori Pudenz helps with the food pantry that's run out of the Canton Lutheran Church, where Woods works. Pudenz says the pantry’s been a huge blessing.“My opinion is nobody should go hungry and that’s what we’re here for,” said Pudenz.Woods' husband is a machinist and she works full-time at the church, but it still hasn't been enough to overcome a mountain of debt that began with cancer at 19 years old.“I couldn’t imagine having an extra in my bank account that wasn’t due to someone else.”Not all of Woods’ debt has come from being a victim of circumstances. She admittedly says she has made some very bad decisions. But what has changed her life is a class on debt taught at the church where she works.“I can see light at the end of the tunnel,” said Woods. “We’re definitely getting there. I’ve been able to learn a lot of different life skills and really face my debts.”And after a full day at work at the church, Woods goes to work at home. She has created a plus size boutique called Becky’s Closet. “The last few months have been tremendous for business. It has created Christmas for us.” 1975
