BEIJING, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- China expressed the hope that the new U.S. ambassador to China will make efforts to enhance trust and cooperation between the two countries.

Araujo said his country will continue expanding practical cooperation with China for further development of bilateral relations.

"Solving the housing issue is a long-term task," the president said. "China still faces problems such as insufficient affordable housing and imbalances in housing resources distribution."

The ambassador said China-Britain relations would bear more fruits if the two countries continue to respect each other's core interests and main concerns, while working together to enhance mutual political trust and strengthening practical cooperation.

More work should be done to promote reforms and restructuring, and the measures that have been mapped out should be carried out fully, so as to constantly release reform dividends and lay a solid foundation for the economy to stabilize and grow, the statement said.
