SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Lifeguards and firefighters responded to Blacks Beach on Sunday to rescue an injured paraglider from a ravine.The 27-year-old woman, who is a pilot, was teaching an advanced training course for paragliding when she lost lift and her parachute collapse, according to lifeguards.Witnesses told lifeguards that the woman tried to brace her impact with her legs as she landed into a ravine next to a popular trail called "Citizens Trail."Lifeguards say the woman was far from the trail when she landed and San Diego Fire-Rescue was called to perform a technical rescue to lift her up the trail.The pilot was taken to a nearby hospital, though the extent of her injuries was not clear, lifeguards said. 734

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, a Republican whose term ends next month, revealed he is considering running for governor in an interview Thursday with the Los Angeles Times.The race will be tough for any Republican, according to political analyst John Dadian, because registered Democrats far outnumber Republicans in California. Those registered with no party preference also outnumber Republicans. “The uphill is he’d have to pull in all the people that are neither democrat or republican, but it’s certainly possible," Dadian said.According to Dadian, many political pundits consider Faulconer to be the most viable Republican in a general election, citing his record as a moderate mayor who frequently cross the aisle to work with Democrats on issues such as climate change. While we may enjoy the sparkle and booms, your pets may run for their lives.“You don’t want to have them outside where all those loud fireworks are going off,” said San Diego Humane Society spokeswoman Dariel Walker. The organization sees a sudden spike in stray animals around this time of year, she said.Just like on July 4th, many pets who are terrified of loud noises run off in a panic. Walker suggested that owners prevent that by creating a calming environment for animals. “You can even even play music or have the TV on or have some noise in the background to drown out that loud sound of the fireworks,” Walker said. Walker advised pet owners to be prepared with a microchip in case they do run away.
