SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Frustrated business owners in the Midway District say an old strip club was a better neighbor than the current property owner, which happens to be a church. The Rock Church bought the strip club, formerly known as The Body Shop, in August of 2018. Now, businesses say nothing has changed except there’s now more trash and drugs. Neighbors say they want the church to clean it up. Noor Shamoon comes to work at Navis Pack and Shop to a very unwelcome sight. “Food, trash feces on wall, on our vehicles.”He says it’s a foul odor and claims people who hang out in the area vandalized the businesses work truck. Employees at the Midas muffler business across the street also say trash and loitering have become huge problems. “We're trying to run a business and it's hard when you have that across the street,” said Gary Stricker. People who work in the area say prostitution is rampant as are drugs. One man reportedly overdosed recently. “I think he maybe shot up some kind of drug or something. We were concerned about him so we called an ambulance,” Stricker said. When The Rock Church dropped the banner over the “nude girls” sign at the former strip club, they promised to clean up the neighborhood. Since the church purchased the property for .3 million, they haven’t touched it. "I hope they do something about that to clean the place up you know,” Stricker said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Hundreds of people rallied outside of the County Administration Building Monday and called for the reopening of San Diego County businesses.The rally was held as new coronavirus-related restrictions took effect across the county over the weekend, forcing businesses and entities like restaurants, gyms, and churches to shutdown their indoor operations.“Some of us are in danger of losing our homes. We’re definitely in danger of losing our businesses. And we just had enough; enough is enough,” said Laura Crivello, a business owner that attended the rally.Many business owners also shared their personal stories and how the restrictions have crippled their businesses and livelihoods. They were joined by the County Supervisor Jim Desmond and the mayors of El Cajon and Coronado. All three expressed their support for business owners.“This is a very important moment for San Diego County and California. And it’s not really a choice between opening businesses and saving lives, and we can do both, we can do both at the same time,” Desmond said.“The museums, the churches, the restaurants, the gyms should all be allowed to reopen in the capacity they had last week,” he added. 1205

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Father Joe’s Village and Connections Housing has been activated as rain is set to move in and cold temperatures continue throughout San Diego.The shelter, located at 1501 Imperial Avenue downtown, opens when the temperature is 50 degrees or below and there is a 40 percent chance of rain or exceptional weather conditions.The program, funded by the City of San Diego, provides food and shelter.CLICK HERE FOR TODAYS FORECASTThis is the second time so far this year that the shelter has opened. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Driving back from a call in Jamul, two HVAC technicians act quickly to help a driver trapped in a smoking car. The accident happened on Campo Road."It looked like the truck got t-boned by a car and flipped on its side," one of the technicians told 10News.For Kyle Hester and Anthony Ramirez, it was a day they will never forget."Working and something crazy happened, you'll never forget it it’ll always be a story to tell," Ramirez said.Dashboard cameras installed in their work truck weeks ago caught the entire incident on camera."It all happened in a matter of seconds," said Ramirez.Hester and Ramirez pulled up to the crash before firefighters and paramedics were there. Hester grabbed the fire extinguisher from the back of their work truck to try to keep the car from catching fire. Ramirez told 10News, "I would consider Kyle a hero." Meanwhile, Hester said he doesn't consider himself a hero, just a person doing the right thing."I think there were other heroes there that day helping out," said Hester.10News has learned both drivers from the crash were able to get out of their vehicles safely. 1132

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — For families who want to give their kids some Halloween fun but avoid traditional trick-or-treating, the city is offering a quick and safe alternative.Wednesday through Saturday, the City of San Diego will offer free bags of candy for families to drive through or walk up and select as an alternative to going door-to-door this Halloween amid the pandemic.The sites will be set up at various times across 27 recreation centers in the city. A complete list of participating recreation centers is online.Families and kids are encouraged to dress up in their costumes. Visitors will get a free bag of candy as well as "a scary surprise or two," according to the city.All recreation centers will be following the recommended guidelines under the county's public health orders, so social distancing and face coverings will be required. 857
