Presidential candidate Joe Biden’s campaign released a statement on Monday saying that the former vice president is not in favor of defunding police departments. His campaign’s statement comes a day after the Minneapolis City Council voted on dismantling the city’s police department in the wake of the death of George Floyd.Biden’s campaign added that he is supportive of police reforms, many of which are backed by those leading massive protests throughout the country.“Vice President Biden does not believe that police should be defunded,” Biden campaign spokesperson Andrew Bats said. “He hears and shares the deep grief and frustration of those calling out for change, and is driven to ensure that justice is done and that we put a stop to this terrible pain.”Biden’s campaign says it is supportive of increasing funding for public schools, summer programs and mental health and substance abuse treatment, “so that officers can focus on the job of policing.”Meanwhile, President Donald Trump tweeted on Monday that “the radical left Democrats have gone crazy” in response to defunding the police.“The president is appalled by the defund the police movement,” White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said.Earlier on Monday, Democrats in Congress proposed legislation calls on a national ban on police use of chokeholds, mandates racial bias training for officers, and sets restrictions on transferring military-type vehicles from the federal government to local police departments.Last week at a speech in Philadelphia, Biden said that he would call on Congress to implement a ban on chokeholds and a stop of transferring military equipment to police departments.McEnany said that the president does not have a specific police reform plan in response, but said it’s something he will look into. 1810

President Trump's steel tariff could cost Ford and General Motors billion a year. That's the hit each company could take if the tariff translates into a similar increase in steel prices, according to a Goldman Sachs analysis. Trump has proposed a 25% tariff on imported steel, along with a 10% tariff on aluminum. billion represents 12% of Ford's profit last year and 7% of GM's, the analysis said. The report looked at Ford and GM's 2017 production mix to make its calculation.Ford said in a statement that the tariffs "could result in an increase in domestic commodity prices — harming the competitiveness of American manufacturers." GM said it supports trade policies "that enable U.S. manufacturers to win and grow jobs in the U.S."Both automakers say they use mostly American-made steel for vehicles they make in the United States.Trump argues that the tariffs will bolster US production of steel and aluminum and combat unfair trade practices. But businesses outside the steel and aluminum industries have warned that the tariffs will lead to higher prices and hurt the economy. The American International Automobile Dealers Association, which was formed to advocate free trade, said car prices could go up "substantially." The group also warned that retaliatory tariffs from other countries could drive up the price of US goods in general. 1366

RANCHO BERNARDO, Calif. (KGTV) - The Rancho Bernardo Development Review Committee heard comments Tuesday night regarding an application for a recreational marijuana store. The owners of the store Urbn Leaf have applied to open a new location at 16375 Bernardo Center Drive, the site of the former Mexican restaurant El Torito. The committee was expected to vote on whether or not they would recommend approval of the conditional use permit, a non-binding decision that would be sent to the Rancho Bernardo Planning Community Planning Board. However, in a 3 to 2 decision, they voted to postpone the vote to a later date pending traffic and environmental studies of the potential impacts. 692

Republican Rick Saccone's campaign has instructed the four counties in Pennsylvania's 18th District to preserve ballots and voting machines, a first step in preparation for a potential recount following the close special election. With election day over and absentee ballots counted, Saccone trailed Democrat Conor Lamb by 627 votes in a district where President Donald Trump won by 20 points. But Saccone had not yet conceded the race Wednesday and now appears poised to challenge the result.Automatic recounts are not mandated in Pennsylvania congressional races, according to the state law. There is a process in place, however, for Saccone's supporters to request a recount when the counties have all the provisional and overseas military ballots and they have been counted. An attorney representing Saccone's campaign notified elections offices in Westmoreland, Washington, Green and Allegheny counties Wednesday of the preservation request, setting a 2 p.m. deadline for responses, according to letters obtained by CNN. All four counties complied, said Matt Gorman, a spokesperson National Republican Congressional Committee. The campaign is also challenging Allegheny County officials over the initial exclusion of one of its attorneys from the vote count, according to a letter to the county from Kathleen Gallagher, the attorney representing the campaign. "While we were finally able to obtain compliance with your inappropriate preconditions, the delay deprived the campaign of the right to have counsel present during the computation reporting process," Gallagher wrote. The campaign sought assurances from country officials that its lawyers would not be blocked from observing canvassing.Allegheny County spokeswoman Amie Downs told CNN that a person lacking authorization to be in the room where absentee ballots were being counted was blocked from entering, but was later allowed back in when the person was approved to be there.Meanwhile, the NRCC plans to launch a digital push to solicit reports from voters of irregularities they witnessed or difficulties they had in casting ballots, Gorman said. Bob Branstetter, a top Saccone aide, said Wednesday morning that the campaign fielded calls on election day from voters who were confused about the new Pennsylvania congressional map, which will be in effect during the November election. 2357

President Donald Trump told reporters Wednesday that while "everyone thinks" he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize for his involvement in the warming of relations with North Korea, the only prize he wants is a victory for the world.Trump was asked by a reporter while holding a Cabinet meeting at the White House whether he deserved the honor, to which the President replied with a large smile: "Everyone thinks so, but I would never say it."Trump instead said he's focused on getting an agreement with North Korea "finished." 528
