Negotiations on a new coronvirus stimulus package are set to continue Monday between lawmakers and White House officials.Congressional leaders are expected to meet with Trump administration officials to resume discussions. A swift, bipartisan agreement seems unlikely.House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin dug in on their opposing positions Sunday. Each doubled down on what has been the main sticking point: The extension of federal enhanced unemployment benefits that expired Friday.Pelosi said the amount could go down as unemployment drops, but for now, benefits need to stay at 0 a week. Mnuchin argued that the White House had proposed a one-week 0 unemployment benefits extension as negotiations continued, but said Democrats rebuffed that offer. 794

NEW YORK (AP) — In a typical year, the newly inducted Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class would have hit the stage and perform the well-known songs that made them famous and helped them enter the prestigious organization. Not in 2020.Because of the coronavirus pandemic, this year's all-star group was inducted Saturday night in a taped HBO special that told the stories of Whitney Houston, Notorious B.I.G. and the Doobie Brothers' rise to fame and how acts like Nine Inch Nails, T. Rex, and Depeche Mode heavily impacted the music industry and generations after them.According to the Los Angeles Times, Houston's mother/manager Cissy Houston accepted her induction on her behalf.Whitney was 48 when she passed away in 2012 after she accidentally drowned due to heart problems and cocaine use, ABC reported.According to Vulture, Houston, Biggie, and T. Rex founder Marc Bolan were three 2020 inductees honored after their deaths.Notorious B.I.G., who was shot and killed in 1997, was inducted by Sean "Diddy" Combs, Vulture reported.Bolan, who died in 1977, was inducted by the former drummer for the Beatles Ringo Starr, Rolling Stone reported. The induction ceremony was initially supposed to occur in May in Cleveland, the city where the Rock Hall is located. 1267
NEW YORK (AP) — Carl Lentz, a pastor from global megachurch Hillsong known for his ministry to athletes and celebrities, has been fired. He acknowledged on Instagram that he cheated on his wife. Lentz and his wife, Laura, founded the East Coast arm of the Australia-based church in 2010. Justin Bieber and wife Hailey Baldwin both attended Hillsong in Los Angeles. "This failure is on me, and me alone and I take full responsibility for my actions. I now begin a journey of rebuilding trust with my wife, Laura and my children and taking real time to work on and heal my own life and seek out the help that I need," Lentz said in his social media post. 661
New numbers just released by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) on Monday show the number of COVID-19 cases is going up sharply among a group of children. The new numbers show children now account for 9.5 percent of all COVID-19 cases across the United States with 476,439.“Children are not immune. Children can get this disease. Some children can get very sick from this disease,” said Dr. Sally Goza, president of the AAP. “When we first started with this, we were saying children were about 2 percent of all the cases, so they’re now 9.5 percent, so we are seeing a number of children that are cases.”Since May 21 COVID-19 cases in children have increased by more than 700 percent, while the total number of cases has risen 270 percent. In the same time frame, child hospitalizations from COVID-19 have nearly tripled that of the general population, rising 356 percent compared to 122 percent.Deaths have doubled in proportion, as well, as child COVID-19 hospitalizations have risen 229 percent compared to 115 percent for all age groups.“Kids are back playing sports. Some kids are back in school,” said Dr. Goza. “So, it would make sense that children would be increasing as well.”Dr. Goza says as we resume a more normal lifestyle a rise in children is expected, but it is the quick increase in proportions that is concerning. She says it comes down to one thing doctors have been preaching for months now: reducing community spread.“The whole thing of we need to decrease the community spread of this disease,” said Dr. Goza. “That’s what [these numbers] tell me is that we have not done a good job of decreasing community spread, because it’s now spreading to our young children.”Dr. Goza says the new numbers are not worthy of panic, but it is a sobering reminder that even those deemed most resilient to this disease are at-risk and need to heed precautions just as much as everyone else.“This virus is serious. We’re not done with it. We may feel like we’re done with it, but this virus is not done with us yet,” she said. 2045
