SAN DIEGO (KGTV) --  Authorities have identified the man who died after he and another man played a consensual "punching game" in a Gaslamp Quarter sports bar early Saturday morning.Corey Poole, 27, had apparently gone out drinking at the downtown sports bar with a group of friends. The group arrived at the Jolt’n Joe’s at 379 Fourth Avenue just before 1 a.m. Police say both men were drinking when they decided to have a punching contest.Police say that Poole and a friend began "consensually sparring" and punching each other in the chest.  During the game, Poole fell to the ground and became unresponsive, the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office said.Staff at the bar performed CPR on the 27-year-old who was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital where he died about an hour later."The decedent and a friend began consensual sparring, consisting of concurrently punching each other with closed fists on the chest," the Medical Examiner's Office said, describing what police had previously called "playing a punching game.""After receiving several punches to the chest, the decedent was struck and immediately collapsed and became unresponsive," the Medical Examiner's Office said.Officials are still working to determine whether Poole's death was an accident, a homicide or something else.Poole's friend, who remained at the location and was hospitalized for chest pain, was not arrested and it's unclear if charges against him will be filed. 1502

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With COVID-19 pandemic-related regulations in effect across California, San Diego County leaders are putting together a task force to make sure local businesses following proper guidelines.County Supervisor Greg Cox announced the county’s plan for a “Safe Reopening Compliance Team,” which will assist businesses as they navigate how to safely operate during the pandemic.“This is going to be the carrot approach, not the stick approach. But I emphasis we still have the stick and other tools available to us and we will use them if necessary,” Cox said.The team will also help with the businesses that don’t seem to be complying with the new rules.Though county leaders haven’t spelled out exactly what role this team will play in enforcing the rules, the county has already received many public complaints about these types of businesses.Erick Hudson, a head coach from CrossFit Humanity, said it’s frustrating to hear about these complaints as they try to adhere to the rules that everyone is being asked to follow.“If a business is just blatantly ignoring the rules, a lot of people congregating without those masks, without having to socially distance, then it’s like who knows how much longer this situation is going to last,” said Hudson.The county has not released a timeline as to when this team will hit the streets. 1354

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two people escaped uninjured after a sailboat crashed into an Ocean Beach jetty, before the vessel itself was crushed by high surf.The 25-foot long boat collided into the North Channel jetty in Ocean Beach with the two individuals on board, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue Department spokeswoman Monica Mu?oz. San Diego Lifeguards used a personal water craft to reach the vessel and safely pull the two individuals after they were forced to jump from the boat. The boat was attempting to leave the jetty area when a large wave forced them to pull a U-turn. SAN DIEGO FORECAST: Wednesday's rains to strengthen heading into ThursdayWind caught the sails and instead sent the vessel back into the jetty, according to witnesses at the scene.Those two people were uninjured in the wreck though the sailboat was crushed by high surf and sunk within the channel's entrance, according to Mu?oz.The boat's owner is now responsible for making arrangements to tow the boat from the channel.RELATED: Where to get free sandbags to protect your home from floodingA storm system forecasted for San Diego County has brought high sets to local beaches Wednesday. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two San Diego County breweries were among the fastest growing craft breweries in the country in 2017, according to the Brewers Association.Novo Brazil Brewing Co. in Chula Vista and Bay City Brewing Co. in San Diego both made the list. The list includes breweries across 25 states. Novo was ranked as the 8th and Bay City 28th fastest-growing small breweries.California lays claim to the speediest growth with several breweries listed, according to the association.Median growth for the top 50 fastest-growing breweries between 2016 and 2017 was 216 percent, according to the Brewers Association.
