It's a vote heavy with emotion and symbolism as they seek to address the global outcry over the deaths of George Floyd and other Black Americans. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi gathered with lawmakers on the Capitol steps to challenge Congress to not let the deaths be in vain. It’s exactly one month since Floyd’s death in police custody in Minneapolis sparked a global reckoning over police tactics and racial injustice.According to a Congressional summary of the bill, the legislation would: Limit qualified immunity as a defense to liability in a private civil action against a law enforcement officer or state correctional officerAuthorize the Department of Justice to issue subpoenas in investigations of police departments for a pattern or practice of discriminationLower the criminal intent standard—from willful to knowing or reckless—to convict a law enforcement officer for misconduct in a federal prosecutionThe bill also creates a national registry—the National Police Misconduct Registry—to compile data on complaints and records of police misconduct. 1350

They toured with @therealtechn9ne and even performed on Wildnout, at SXSW and other festivals. And Bowers was the energy of the group, a writer, rapper, singer, skateboarder.??! The kid could do it all, but like most of us he had his own demons and darkness that he struggled with. We would often talk about God and Spirituality and he got to a place where it all was confusing for him and he couldn’t trust anyone. I told him I would always have his back and would be there for him so when I got the call today that he slit his throat and then immediately after the San Diego police shot him numerous times. WASHINGTON (AP) — Bahrain is the latest Arab nation to agree to normalize ties with Israel as part of a broader diplomatic push by President Donald Trump and his administration to fully integrate the Jewish state into the Middle East. Trump announced the agreement on Friday — the 19th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States. WASHINGTON (AP) — A vehicle collision between U.S. and Russian forces in eastern Syria has left four U.S. troops with concussions. That's according to two U.S. officials who are speaking on condition of anonymity to provide details that haven't been made public yet. It's the most violent skirmish in months between the two forces. One official says Russian vehicles sideswiped a light-armored U.S. military vehicle, injuring four Americans. The official says two Russian helicopters flew above the Americans, and one of the aircraft was within about 70 feet the vehicle. There have been several other recent incidents between the American and Russian troops who all patrol in eastern Syria, but officials describe this one as the most serious. 752

Service members are struggling with isolation and other effects of COVID-19, in addition to the pressures of deploying to war zones, responding to national disasters and addressing civil unrest.
