Syria will also take part in the 2010 Shanghai EXPO," the Syrian official said.Rasheed who headed his country's delegation to the Joint Afro- Arab Ministerial Meeting on Agricultural Development and Food Security which kicked off on Sunday in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, said the current meeting has attached greater importance due to the drought which haunts many Arab and African countries and the global financial crisis.The recent food crisis caused the prices of many food stuff to ratchet up and the global financial crisis forced many countries to cut funds allocated to agricultural development, said the official."I hope the meeting will lay a concrete foundation stone for cooperation between Arab and African states at this vital stage," he said.The Syrian official added that the meetings aim to establish a common Arab-African strategy on agriculture and food security, pointing out that there is a plan to set up a follow-up, steering and coordination body along with a special fund to support the implementation of decisions to be sanctioned by the ministers.Rasheed added that his country has already taken tangible steps on food security, "Syria has successfully made food security years ago thanks to governmental policies and its support for the agricultural sector.""We have achieved this goal," he said, yet adding his country still faces challenges due to the recent drought which is the worst in 50 years.

BEIJING, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao has commended the heroic deeds of a special policeman, who died on duty at the age of 28, and asked the country to build a special police team with high fighting capacity.Hu made the call in a written instruction to a meeting on Tuesday honoring Shen Zhandong, a special policeman from Zhengzhou, of the central Henan Province.Shen was known for his outstanding performance in many missions, including the rescue work after the deadly Wenchuan earthquake in Sichuan Province and the security work for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.Shen died on Jan. 30, the day of his 28th birthday. "We cannot just tell them to leave the school and go home."Discussions about the future of substitute teachers have been featured prominently in newspapers and on websites in recent days, as it was reported all the substitute teachers would be dismissed in 2010.Substitute teachers are more often seen in poor places, mostly rural villages, as local governments could not afford to employ enough licensed teachers.By the end of 2008, China had about 311,000 substitute teachers, according to the ministry.Lu said the substitute teachers qualified for the job should be given opportunity to be formally recruited while those who were dismissed should be compensated.In recent years, substitute teachers have been gradually replaced by graduates from normal universities as the government invested more in the education in rural areas.
