For example, Markel’s bike insurance can cover things like crash damage, roadside assistance, spare parts and replacement-bike rentals, whereas a typical homeowners or renters insurance does not.Markel and another bike insurer, Velosurance, say their annual premiums start at 0. If it’s small, it still probably isn’t worth filing a claim and risking a rate increase in the future that could cost you more over time.“It’s really about the balance between the cost of replacement and the increased cost on your monthly premiums. Some people might also say the hassle of making a claim is an additional downside,” says Zacharia.“Remember that your deductible matters,” Zacharia adds. “If your bicycle is worth 0 but your deductible is set at ,000, you’ll be paying out of pocket to replace it. It’s up to you where you set a deductible level. Moss says that means immunized people might be able to spread COVID-19 to others.He also wonders how long immunization will last. One year? Three years? Will booster doses be needed? They're all careful considerations that will only emerge once one is put into play, according to Moss.“It’s obviously tragic that the [COVID] cases are occurring that quickly, but it does help a vaccine trial because otherwise you just have to wait that much longer for samples to come in,” said Moss.The vaccine process has innovated how scientists and researchers approach these types of situations, however, according to Moss.In traditional vaccines, a small dose of the virus is injected into the body so the immune system can create antibodies. In the COVID-19 vaccine, though, both Moderna and Pfizer have used what is called messenger RNA (mRNA) where the virus’ genetic code is injected into the body so it can instruct cells on what antibodies to produce. Scientists say this way is faster, safer, and can create a stronger immune response as people are not exposed to the virus.“I suspect that if this all goes well and these vaccines are safe and continue to demonstrate 90 to 95 percent efficacy, we’re going to see other vaccines of a similar type,” said Moss. 2298

  

The county of San Diego is preparing to ask the state for nearly million to repave stretches of hundreds of roads it maintains.The Board of Supervisors could vote Wednesday to seek revenue from the recent gas-tax hike to repair the roads. The roads are in all ends of the county, from Bonita to Alpine to Vista. Jerry Brown signed the billion gas tax hike into law last year. Californians already pay a series of gas taxes ranking among the highest in the nation. The tax hike raised the per-gallon tax by 12 cents last November, with future increases planned. The bill, SB1, also added a 0 fee to the annual registration for electric vehicles, starting with model year 2020."People can't afford it. I'm retired but if you're working and have to commute, I don't think people realize how much of a dent that's going to make," said Vicky Bamburger, a Bonita resident who is supporting an effort to repeal the tax that appears to be headed to this November's ballot.But those who support the increase say fixing the roads will save California drivers from expensive car repairs due to problems like potholes, and save taxpayers from larger repairs later."A small improvement now - if you have a road that needs to be covered - that's going to be so much more cost effective, cost saving in the long run," said Catherine Hill, of the League of California Cities.Local governments have until May 1 to submit their gas-tax revenue road repair requests to the state.
