CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — What looks like an asteroid may just be an old rocket from a failed moon-landing mission more than 50 years ago. The newly spotted object is expected to get nabbed by Earth's gravity and become a mini moon next month. NASA's leading asteroid expert thinks it is the upper rocket stage from a 1966 mission. Observations as the object draws closer should help nail its identity. He speculates the object is the Centaur stage from NASA's Surveyor 2 mission, dating back to 1966. It's expected to shoot back out into its own orbit around the sun next March. 589

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — Brad Pitt, star of the new space movie "Ad Astra," had a burning question for a real-life astronaut."Who was more believable? Clooney or Pitt?"In a televised call Monday, NASA astronaut Nick Hague answered Pitt — "absolutely" — getting a big laugh. Pitt's Hollywood pal George Clooney starred in the 2013 space film "Gravity."Hague and the rest of the International Space Station crew previewed "Ad Astra" a few weeks ago. The movie opens Friday down here.Pitt portrays an astronaut who travels through the solar system to find his father. The film includes actual NASA shots of the moon and Mars."How'd we do? How was our zero-G?" Pitt asked from NASA headquarters in Washington."I got to tell you, it was really good," said Hague, six months into his own 6 ?-month mission. "The depictions, the settings all as you can tell look very similar to the type of setting I've got around me. I got to imagine it was a lot easier for me to kind of enjoy the zero-G than it was you," he added, flipping in weightlessness.Pitt noted the movie's spaceship was "a bit cleaner" than the station. After asking about spacewalking and seeing Earth from space, Pitt said, "Most important question: Who controls the jam box?" Answer: The astronauts take turns. With three Americans, two Russians and an Italian on board, the music has an "international flare," Hague said. The 20-minute chat ended with Pitt sharing, "I can't wait to brag to my kids."___The Associated Press Health and Science Department receives support from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Department of Science Education. Carnival Cruise Line is canceling most U.S. sailings through the end of this year. It's the latest sign that the cruise industry's recovery from the coronavirus pandemic could still be many months away.Carnival says it's canceling sailings from all ports except its home ports of Miami and Port Canaveral, Florida, but it stressed that it still might not sail from those ports in November and December.Carnival's announcement came the day after the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention extended a ban on large cruises in U.S. waters through Oct. 31.Carnival isn't the only cruise liner canceling trips because of COVID-19 - Royal Caribbean and Norwegian also announced they are canceling cruises.Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, which operates the Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises, announced that it was suspending all its cruises through Nov. 30."The Company will continue to work in tandem with global government and public health authorities and its Healthy Sail Panel expert advisors to take all necessary measures to protect its guests, crew, and the communities visited," officials said in the release. On Tuesday, Royal Caribbean Group, owners of Royal Caribbean International, Azamara, Celebrity Cruises, and Silversea Cruises, said in a press release that they were extending their suspension through Nov. 30.However, they do plan to move forward with their Hong Kong cruises, which are scheduled for November, the company said in the release.Royal also added that Celebrity Cruises and Azamara had suspended their entire 2020/21 winter programs. Celebrity stopped all of its winter cruises in Australia and Asia. Azamara has also suspended its winter sailings in Australia and New Zealand, South Africa, and South America. The no-sail order, initially issued in March, was set to expire on Sept. 30. 1861

Businesses across the country that are taking part in the “Open to All” campaign are placing stickers on their store fronts to show customers they are inclusive.Voodoo Doughnuts in Colorado was one of the first businesses to take part in the initiative, and now, hundreds of others are signing up.The “Open to All” coalition, which includes over 1,200 businesses, believes no one should have to ever worry about whether they will be denied service. The campaign was sparked by an incident that happened at a Colorado cake shop back in 2012. The shop refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple because it didn't align with their religious beliefs. The case went all the way to the Supreme Court, where the ruling was in favor of the cake shop.Daniel Ramos with One Colorado, a non-profit organization for the LGBTQ community, says that ruling was a turning point."We know we have so much work to do to make sure people, regardless of their sexual orientation, regardless of their gender identity, have access to businesses that won't deny them, simply because who they are and who they love,” says Ramos.Ramos believes the “Open to All” campaign is good for all businesses. "Over the past number of years, we have seen businesses stand on the side of equality because they know equality means business,” Ramos says. “It’s good for them, for their companies, for their employees to feel safe, supported and welcome."A huge contributor for the movement is Yelp. When you open the app, it will tell you if a business is participating. Also, Lyft is another big company taking part. The coalition, along with One Colorado, believes that taking part in this movement, you are standing up for human rights. "Regardless of who you are or who you love, when you walk into a business, you should be served and that you are treated with dignity and respect," Ramos says. 1890
