Thursday marks the 93rd Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, which will maneuver through the streets of New York in front of hundreds of thousands. This year's parade will feature 16 giant character balloons; 40 novelty balloons, heritage balloons, balloonicles, balloonheads and trycaloons; 26 floats; 1,200 cheerleaders and dancers; more than 1,000 clowns; and 11 marching bands.New balloons this year include an Astronaut Snoopy, Green Eggs and Ham, and SpongeBob SquarePants and Gary. These balloons are expected to be quite large. Macy's said that the Spongebob SquarePants and Gary balloon will be 44 feet tall, 46 feet long and 36 feet wide. The balloon requires 90 handlers. Darren Soto and Stephanie Murphy, both from Central Florida, announced their plan to declare Pulse a federal landmark at a service in front of the temporary memorial Monday. The designation, they hope, will nationally honor the 49 victims of the deadliest act of violence against LGBT people in the history of the country.If passed, the bill would classify the memorial as part of the National Park System but allow local nonprofit OnePulse Foundation to retain control of its construction, Soto said. The US economy added only 75,000 jobs in May, a surprisingly low number that was well below what experts had predicted.Meanwhile, the unemployment rate remained at 3.6%, meaning that joblessness is still hovering near a half-century low.The report supports suspicions that the labor market is finally slowing down from its blistering pace in 2018, with revisions to the past two months subtracting 75,000 jobs. Employers have added 164,000 jobs per month on average in 2019, compared with 223,000 jobs per month last year.Still, economists had expected 185,000 jobs added in May, so 75,000 fell far short of those expectations.The share of people who have jobs or are looking for them remained the same, suggesting that the low number may stem from the difficulty of finding workers after 104 months of continuous job creation.
