He hasn’t shown signs of the virus, but with two cases now confirmed among evacuees at Miramar, his wife in Omaha is a little worried on his behalf.“Even when you’re trying to keep a positive attitude, which he has done, there’s still going to be those days when you’re second guessing, “Could I be that person that comes down with that horrible thing next?” Fauniel Wasserburger said.The evacuees are allowed to mingle with each other in quarantine, although they’re supposed to stay six feet apart. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Kristin Elliott is CEO of Precision Engineering in Vista, a company that creates water quality sensors for oceans and lakes, "we sell these to universities around the world, work with Scripps Institution of Oceanography," Elliott described.Her work is her passion but so is her team, so when the pandemic hit she said it was her goal not to layoff any employees, taking a pay cut so her team could stay paid."We wanted to save our team through this," she said. Then, there was the announcement kids would be returning to school online."We have this space that we're not gonna be utilizing because no one's having in-person conferences, we're all over zoom these days," turning the room into a classroom. "It's large enough to fit 3 or 4 kids and that's exactly the number of kids we have with our employees. We're going to have a little reading area where kids can switch places to relax and reset. All the things you can normally find in a classroom, a bookshelf with all the interests they might have." Elliott even went to great lengths, hiring an accredited teacher's assistance to help."It's definitely a relief. I know they were just thinking about homeschooling and working, trying to manage that. There's so many emotions involved and so much anxiety and stress, and my goal was to reduce that for our employees."Elliott has followed all CDC protocols and guidelines for her 15 employees working in office, and she'll do the same when their kids come fall."We're still getting the room set up because we want to ensure social distancing between the children and the teacher. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Many Asian American business owners continue to struggle during the pandemic, but a North County teen is hoping to help by creating a website to support local restaurants."I was hearing a lot of stories about Asians in my community experiencing discrimination during the pandemic," said 17-year-old Kaia Culotta.The teen said coming from a family of small business owners, she wanted to do something to help."I realized that there wasn't an easily accessible, comprehensible list of Asian owned businesses in my community," said Culotta. "So, I saw a need for that."For weeks, Culotta learned how to code through free programs online to build a website. The "Help Asian Owned Businesses" site has an extensive list of restaurants located around the county.Culotta said her project sparked the interest of San Diego City Councilmember Chris Cate. He even shared a video promoting the site on social media."It is awesome. It's such a neat thing to be doing out of the goodness of her heart," said Joe Kao, owner of R3fresh Juice Bar.After seeing Cate's video, the small business owner reached out to the teen to thank her for putting the site together.Kao said his business, like many others, had fewer customers during the pandemic.
