According to the U.S. Army, units are deployed to Fort Irwin for 21 days, 14 of which are spent in what is referred to as "The Box" (as in sandbox). It's the vast desert training area that includes 15 simulated towns and the previously mentioned tunnel and caves, as well as expansive gunnery ranges and tank battle arenas. The soldiers learn to navigate through civilians, insurgents, criminal networks and military forces, using what is known as Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES). It’s basically a form a laser tag and allows the units to train using blanks. NTC rotations incorporate a complex scenario design laden with social, ethical and moral dilemmas; the goal of which is to develop leaders while exposing them to multifaceted problems. Units training at the NTC face a complex hybrid threat. Units must face a near-peer opposing force, while taking on an insurgent force. GULF BREEZE, Fla. – A Florida man accidentally shot and killed his son-in-law who jumped out of bushes to surprise him on Tuesday.Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson says the “horrible accident” happened outside the home of the father-in-law, 61-year-old Richard Dennis.Before the deadly shooting, Johnson says another relative banged on the front door of the Gulf Breeze home at about 9:30 p.m., startling the father-in-law, who then ran the family member off. At about 11 p.m. that night, the son-in-law, 37-year-old Christopher Bergan, arrived to an area airport from Norway and went directly to Dennis’ house to surprise him for his birthday. “At 11:30, Mr. Dennis hears the same type of banging on the back door that he heard on the front door earlier, so he turns on the back-porch light, he steps out and Mr. Bergan jumps out of the shadows, scaring Mr. Dennis,” said Johnson. “Mr. Dennis gets off one round, striking Mr. Bergan, killing him instantly.”Johnson says an investigation revealed that the incident “was totally accidental” and that no charges are warranted in the case. “Anybody who is religious out there, you need to pray for this family because I can’t imagine what they’re going through. Federal officials are searching for a Detroit man charged in United States District Court for allegedly putting a GPS devices under his ex-girlfriend's vehicle.According to federal court documents, Shawn Kelly Thomason was charged with stalking in the Minnesota federal court. Officials asked that he be detained because of a danger to the community and a flight risk. However, Thomason was released on bond and is on the run after failing to appear at a court hearing.The federal order said that Thomason traveled across state lines on Dec. 6, 2018, for the purpose of "placing the victim under surveillance with the intent to kill, injure, harass, or intimidate her."According to the feds, Thomason allegedly traveled from Hazel Park to Mankato, Minn. to put a GPS tracker on his ex's car. Inside his rental vehicle, feds say there were many items that included bags designed to block cell signals, a loaded handgun and ammunition. 945
