SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Police were searching today for two men suspected of being involved in a shooting on an Encanto street.A man and a woman were standing outside of a parked car on 59th Street near Market Street around 7:20 p.m. Saturday when two men approached them, San Diego Police Sgt. Michael Tansey said. One suspect pulled out a handgun and shot at the male victim, who was hit once in his right ankle. The two suspects ran away north on 59th Street, then west on KenwoodStreet. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The entire passenger and freight rail line between Oceanside and San Diego will be closed at midnight and remain shut down all weekend for improvements, according to the San Diego Association of Governments.Crews will shut down the lines just after midnight Saturday through 5 a.m. Monday, according to SANDAG, which will make several improvements, including work on the Mid-Coast Trolley project, extending the UC San Diego blue line trolley from the Santa Fe Depot in Downtown San Diego north toward UC San Diego.Four rail services use the San Diego segment of the Los Angeles-San Diego-San Luis Obispo coastal rail corridor: North County Transit District, Metrolink, Amtrak and the BNSF freight line.Passengers using the Coaster train line are advised to use the BREEZE Route 101 or local buses. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego County health officials reported 1,378 new COVID-19 infections and 22 deaths today as hospitalizations continue to surge with nearly triple the number of people hospitalized compared to a month ago.Tuesday's data brings the cumulative number of cases to 83,421 while the death toll crossed another milestone as it reached 1,019.The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency reported 723 coronavirus patients hospitalized as of Tuesday, with 197 of them in intensive care units. That compares to 692 reported Monday, with 180 in the ICU. That number was 671 on Sunday, 636 on Saturday, and 580 last Wednesday and Thursday.The number of people with COVID-19 in area hospitals has nearly tripled from one month ago -- 262 were hospitalized on Oct. 31.
