ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. -- From the outside, it looks like a typical white clapboard chapel. Step inside, though, and you’ll find yourself transported to thousands upon thousands of memories about man’s best friend.“It was it was a labor of love for sure,” said Scott Buckingham, with the nonprofit Friends of Dog Mountain. “They were constantly making trade-offs: ‘eating or should I buy materials for the chapel?’”“They” are Stephen and Gwen Huneck, husband and wife artists, who bought an old dairy farm outside St. Johnsbury, Vermont, and proceeded to build a chapel in honor of dogs.Scott Buckingham heads up the nonprofit running it all.“Steven and Gwen's background was in art, in wood prints and furniture and sculpting, and their primary subject matter was dogs,” he said. “So, when they purchased this property that was their intent, was to make this a place that served dogs and honored our relationship with dogs and pets.”They finished the chapel 20 years ago.Since then, with 30,000 people visiting each year from around the country and the world, the walls of the chapel have become a host to personal and emotional notes, cards and photos, inches thick, in honor of departed dogs.“When that relationship comes to an end, we're left very empty,” Buckingham said. “And what you see here are notes that are trying to capture and express their gratitude for a really, really fantastic relationship.”One visitor noted, it “brings back memories of my last dog. I’m going to be in tears if I don’t start thinking of something else.”Yet, it’s more than just a dog chapel. It’s a whole mountain property of 150 acres called “Dog Mountain.” There’s trails for dogs to explore, along with wide open spaces to run in and several ponds to swim in.“A place where they can come and their dogs can be free and play,” Buckingham said.Stephen and Gwen Huneck have since passed away, but their artwork – mostly about dogs – lives on in a gallery on the property and, of course, in the dog chapel they built from scratch.“It's a really profound experience to come here and spend some quiet time reading the notes,” Buckingham said. “You'll see, even when I think about it and I talk about it, it just chokes you up a little bit. Southwest Airlines said Thursday that a fatal accident on one of its planes has scared some people away from booking flights on the airline.It reported seeing a "recent softness in bookings following the Flight 1380 accident." And it said that that weakness in bookings will result in slightly lower fare revenue in the second quarter as it tries to keep its planes full.A passenger died last week when a fan blade broke off the engine of a Boeing 737 and shrapnel shattered a window next to her. It's a big change for people and pets as well.Veterinarians warn pets who haven't experienced separation anxiety before could still be at risk of having it now.Many have gotten used to a new routine of having humans at home.Other dogs may be more prone to this anxiety if they already suffer from other types of it, like when there's a thunderstorm or loud noises.“It’s similar to people having general anxiety and being higher strung,” said Dr. Jessica Romine, an internist with Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners. “So, if you notice that your dog tends to have a really strong reaction to storms, that could be a warning sign that they may also have that.”Some other signs include your pet not being able to separate themselves from you when you go to other rooms in the house.If they damage things at home whenever you're away for short periods of time, Romine says they’re not angry, they’re panicked.If you're headed back to work soon, a few things you can do to ease their anxiety is practice going away for a while, practice crate training. SPRING VALLEY, Calif. (KGTV) — One person is dead after a fire tore through an East County home early Saturday.The fire broke out just before 3 a.m. at a residence located on Demona Place in Spring Valley. Fire fighters responded and were told by a neighbor that a 50-year-old man may still be inside the home. San Diego Sheriff's deputies tried to make contact with anyone inside, but nobody answered.Crews were able to force their way into the residence and begin extinguishing the fire, which had fully engulfed the home.One man was found inside the home and pulled from the living room area.SDSO says the man's injuries were unknown, but he likely suffered from smoke inhalation. He was taken to UCSD Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.Bomb Arson investigated were requested to the scene, but the origin and cause of the blaze were not known Saturday. 873

LOUIS -- The U.S. Coast Guard has referred the investigation into last month’s deadly sinking of a Missouri tourist boat to federal prosecutors.The accident occurred July 19 at Table Rock Lake near Branson, Missouri. An amphibious duck boat sank amid strong winds, killing 16 passengers and a crew member. Fourteen people survived.Nine of those victims were from on Indianapolis family. Tia Coleman and her nephew, Donovan were the only two members of their family to survive. The legal team for the Coleman family says it “supports the U.S. Coast Guard Marine Board of Investigation referral to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Western Missouri for criminal investigation." Adding, "All those who continue to grieve  support holding fully accountable those responsible for making the deadly decisions that resulted in the catastrophe.”Several investigations are still underway from the National Transportation Safety Board, the Coast Guard and the Missouri Attorney General’s Office.The duck boat attraction owner, Ripley Entertainment, says it is cooperating with the investigations. 1115
