The moratorium allowed landlords to file eviction cases in courts, but prevented law enforcement from carrying out eviction orders. When the moratorium ends on December 31, some activists worry there will be a large number of eviction orders carried out at once.“We may end up on January 1, 2021 with thousands of potential eviction orders,” said Carey DeGenaro, a lawyer with the COVID-19 Eviction Defense Project.She says the CDC’s eviction moratorium is a bandage, as it delays the negative outcome, but is not a solution, as it does not address the problem of lost income. Detroit police are investigating after a teen was shot in the back of the head while live on Instagram.According to police, it happened in a home in the 17600 block of San Juan on the city's west side.Police say just before midnight, two 18-year-old men were live on Instagram with guns and money. Per the suspect, he accidentally put his finger on the trigger and discharged the rifle, striking the other 18-year-old in the back of the head in the living room.Police and medics arrived on scene and pronounced the man dead.The other 18-year-old was taken into custody.  583

DETROIT — Two conservative activists accused of voter intimidation turned themselves into law enforcement at the Detroit Detention Center early Thursday morning.Jack Burkman and Jacob Wohl have been charged with multiple felonies in Michigan for a series of false robocalls that aimed to dissuade urban residents in Detroit and other cities from voting by mail.They will be arraigned at 10:30 a.m. in 36th District Court.Burkman, a 54-year-old Arlington, Virginia resident, and Wohl, a 22-year-old Los Angeles resident, are each charged with:One count of election law — intimidating voters, a five-year felonyOne count of conspiracy to commit an election law violation, a five-year felonyOne count of using a computer to commit the crime of election law — intimidating voters, a seven-year felonyUsing a computer to commit the crime of conspiracy, a seven-year felonyIf convicted of the charges, the maximum amount of prison time each defendant could receive under law is 12 years, due to Michigan’s concurrent sentencing statutes. DELANO, Calif. (KGTV) - Two people died in a crash Tuesday after a traffic stop by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in the city of Delano, near Bakersfield.The Delano Police Department arrived at the scene of the rollover just before 7 a.m. Officers found the SUV on its roof with two victims inside.Police said the SUV had been speeding when the driver went onto a dirt shoulder and lost control. The SUV flipped and stopped after it hit a power pole, according to police.The man and woman inside the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene.Delano officers determined ICE agents had pulled over the SUV before the crash. Agents got out of their vehicle but the SUV driver left the scene. The SUV crashed a short time later.There is no word on the identities of the victims or why they were pulled over. 824
