BEIJING, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan on Thursday agreed with U.S. Commerce Secretary Gary Faye Locke and Trade Representative Ron Kirk to enhance bilateral trade cooperation.In their latest phone talks, the two sides exchanged views on the China-U.S. economic and trade relations and other issues of common concern.They agreed to deepen communications and cooperation in order to guarantee a successful outcome of the forthcoming 21st session of the China-U.S Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade (JCCT) and lay a favorable foundation for a state visit by Chinese President Hu Jintao to the United States slated for early next year.The JCCT was established in 1983 as a platform for the two countries to promote trade relations and address issues of mutual concern. The last session was held in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou in October last year.

BEIJING, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- China Thursday expressed the hope that the pricing difference on natural gas imported from Russia would be narrowed through joint efforts from both sides.Gu Jun, deputy director-general of the National Energy Administration's international department, made the remarks at a news briefing on Premier Wen Jiabao's upcoming visit to Russia and Tajikistan.Though companies from both sides had made many efforts in this regard, a certain difference still existed in the pricing of natural gas imported from Russia, Gu said, calling for additional sincerity to be demonstrated on the pricing talks by the two sides.Talks on this issue will be also a part of Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan's upcoming visit to Russia, she said.In 2009, Russia inked a framework agreement with China on annually supplying at most 70 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China, but they still did not reach an agreement on the supplying price.Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao will pay official visits to Russia and Tajikistan from Nov. 22 to 25 at the invitation of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Tajikistan Prime Minister Akil Akilov.During the visits, Premier Wen Jiabao will attend the 15th Chinese-Russian prime ministers meeting and the ninth prime ministers meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.

BEIJING, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- China's National Meteorological Center alerted central and southeast China to a blizzard on Wednesday as a bitter cold front kept expanding southward, enveloping China in snow and record-low temperatures.Snows have now covered most of southern China. Even the subtropical Guangdong Province and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region will see temperatures drops up to 10 degrees centigrade, according to a statement from the center.The ongoing Asian Para Games in Guangzhou, capital city of Guangdong, were affected by the weather. The wheelchair tennis competition hadto be held indoors, with some matches being delayed on Wednesday.A snowfall, starting at 8:45 a.m., has coated Nanchang City, capital of east China's Jiangxi Province, in white. Forecasts say snowstorms will continue to ravage most of Jiangxi until Friday.With the average temperature having dropped from about 9 to 1.7 degrees centigrade, most parts of central China's Hunan province are being pounded by rain, snow and hail storms.The weather has also begun to disrupt traffic.Flights leaving an airport in Jiangxi were canceled as snows affected visibility of pilots. In Hunan, drivers had to slow down to avoid accidents and construction work was halted amid the bitter cold as migrant workers crowded railway stations.Hunan and Jiangxi are only two of the many provinces and region to the south of the Yangtze River being hit by snowstorms.The National Meteorological Center forecast temperatures in most parts of China would start to climb on Friday. BEIJING, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- China will continue rare earth export and regulate export quotas according to World Trade Organization rules, said the Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday.China announced its first batch of 2011 rare earth export quotas at 14,446 tonnes at the end of 2010.The full-year quotas are under discussion and will be announced timely, said Yao Jian, a spokesman with the ministry, at a news briefing here.The country exported 35,000 tonnes of rare earth from January to November in 2010, up 14.5 percent from a year earlier. Exports to Japan, the European Union and the United States accounted for 86 percent of the total exports, said Yao.He said that it is normal that rare earth prices fluctuate with demand and supply and China acted responsibly last year to ensure basic demand for the minerals was met.China has noticed that other countries, such as the U.S. and Australia, have increased exploitation of rare earth in their own countries. "This will effectively safeguard the global supply," said Yao.With around 36 percent of the world's rare earth reserves, China supplies 90 percent of global demand.
