ANKARA, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in Ankara on Thursday night for a three-day official visit to Turkey.Turkey is the last leg of Wen's four-nation tour, which has taken him to Greece, Belgium and Italy. BEIJING, Aug. 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping said here Monday China hopes to work with Norway to boost bilateral economic and trade cooperation.Xi told visiting Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Stoere he hopes the two countries will expand cooperation in areas such as shipping, fisheries, energy, environmental protection and the Arctic.Xi said as long as the two nations respect each other and especially respect each other's core interests and major concerns, China-Norway relations will develop in a healthy way.Stoere expressed appreciation for China's achievements in social and economic progress, saying that the Norwegian government will increase cooperation with China in politics, economics, culture, science and technology, energy and finance.Norway hopes to sign a free trade agreement with China, Stoere added.Chinese foreign minister Yang Jiechi held talks with Stoere earlier Monday.

BEIJING, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese shares advanced to a five-month high Friday on the gains of gold producers and nonferrous metals.The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 3.13 percent, or 83.09points, to close at 2,738.74.The Shenzhen Component Index gained 3.86 percent, or 442.83 points, to end at 11,911.37.Combined turnover stood at 283.42 billion yuan (42.43 billion U.S. dollars), up from 183 billion yuan the previous trading day.Gainers outnumbered losers by 814 to 41 in Shanghai and 1,025 to 47 in Shenzhen.Most Chinese stocks proved resilient Friday after the stock markets were closed from Oct. 1 to 7 for the annual National Day holiday.Gold producers rallied Friday after international gold prices hit a record during the Chinese holiday as investors sought an alternative investment to the U.S. dollar, which slid to an eight-month low against the euro on Thursday.Zijin Mining Group, China's largest gold producer, surged by the 10- percent daily trading limit to end at 8 yuan per share. GUANGZHOU, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Floods, landslides and heavy downpours brought by typhoon Fanapi had claimed 55 lives in south China's Guangdong Province, while another 42 were still missing, local authorities said Thursday.Meanwhile, more than 1.26 million people were affected and 98,000 in low-lying areas were forced to be evacuated, a spokesman with the provincial civil affairs department said.Rainstorms and and geological disasters had destroyed more than 4,200 homes and inundated more than 48,700 hectares of cropland, the spokesman said.Direct economic losses were estimated at more than 2 billion yuan (300 million U.S. dollars), he said.Tonnes of relief supplies, such as tents, clothes, quilts, bottled water and rice, have been dispatched to the disaster-hit areas.Helicopters were used Thursday to airdrop relief materials to victims.Typhoon Fanapi, the 11th and strongest typhoon that hit China this year, landed in Fujian Province at 7 a.m. Monday, but wreaked most havoc in Guangdong, which neighbors Fujian on the south.No casualties have been reported in Fujian.
