SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld guests are getting their first look at a sea otter pup recently rescued in Alaska and taken in by San Diego staff for care.Cinder, an orphaned sea otter brought to SeaWorld earlier this month from Alaska, has nearly doubled in weight and has been hitting all the developmental milestones for her age, the theme park said. Veterinarians have been caring for the pup around the clock, the park says, and she has been adjusting well to her new home.RELATED: Orphaned sea otter pup brought from Alaska to SeaWorld's careCinder is viewable just in time for Sea Otter Awareness Week. SeaWorld keepers will be hosting presentations about otters and ways to public can help in their care in the wild through Saturday.The young pup arrived at the Alaska SeaLife Center underweight and dehydrated, before being transferred to San Diego. Cinder's now weighs a little more than 10 pounds, feeding on a special sea otter milk formula every three hours.Guests can view Cinder periodically throughout the day at the Otter Outlook nursery.The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has deemed Cinder non-releasable, so SeaWorld's Animal Rescue Team and veterinarians have provided constant care. She is expected to be introduced to the park's other resident female sea otters — Mocha, Coco, Clover and Pumpkin, who range in age from five to nine years old — who were also orphaned. 1393

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Sophie Felix may be petite, but there is nothing small about the way she approaches living and giving -- and it all started with her grandparents."Growing up, my Grandmother and my Grandpa Augie used to be foster parents so from a very young age I understood it's very important to give back to children in need," says Felix.Nine years ago, Sophie says she felt compelled to reach out to the Encinitas-based group, Passion 4 K.I.D.S. which stands for Kids In Desperate Situations. The group helps improve the lives of handicapped, neglected and underprivileged children.Through founders Linda and Charles Van Kessler, Sophie met Izaiah Wallis and his family. Izaiah has been unable to walk or talk since he was hit by a drunk driver at age one, 10 years ago.Sophie started out by planning special experiences for the family including securing sponsorships for trips to Disneyland and Seaworld as well as handicapped accessible gear such as a van --- and Sophie was just getting started. A mom herself, she became the chapter president of America's Children of Fallen Heroes. Off-roading adventure in a custom jeep is just one part of what the group does. A bigger part is providing the kids with a 10-year mentorship program so they can pursue anything and realize their dreams.Sophie says that is very important to her because she herself is living her American dream. In addition to her charity work, Sophie runs her own business, HBM Talent and Management, and she spreads her passion to every client she signs."That is part of our deal. They have to volunteer for at least 2 charity events per year," she says.Those clients, including former NASCAR driver Felix Giles, are happy to do it. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police saved a driver whose SUV got stuck in the path of an oncoming train in Little Italy Tuesday morning.The vehicle was stuck on the track at 1:30 a.m. near West Grape Street and California Street, approximately 100 yards south of the railroad crossing.Police were on the scene and helped the driver out of the SUV, according to San Diego County Sheriff’s deputies who assisted in the investigation.A southbound Amtrak train was traveling 35 miles an hour when the train operator saw the vehicle on the track.The operator applied the emergency brake but was unable to stop in time, and collided with the vehicle.The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Neither the driver nor any passenger on the train was hurt. 771
