BALTIMORE — A lawmaker from Maryland has apologized for using a racial slur. Delegate Mary Ann Lisanti apologized to the leaders of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland and the House Democratic Caucus for her use of the n-word.Democrat Lisanti released a statement Tuesday afternoon:"I deeply apologize to the citizens of my district, people of Maryland, all of my colleagues in the Maryland General Assembly and everyone reading this for my word choice several weeks ago. I am sickened that a word that is not in my vocabulary came out of my mouth. It does not represent my belief system, my life’s work or what is my heart.Last evening I met with the Legislative Black Caucus to express my deepest regret for the pain I have caused my colleagues in the General Assembly and repent. This morning, I expressed the same to the entire Democratic Caucus. Earlier today, I met with House Speaker Busch and agreed to step down from my leadership position. I also agreed to participate in sensitivity training. I understand that the use of inappropriate and insensitive language is not acceptable under any circumstance. I am sorry for the hurt I have caused and will do everything I can to help heal that pain and regain the trust of my colleagues and constituents. I pray for forgiveness. "According to 1315

Andrew Luck, a quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts, announced over the weekend that he was retiring from professional football at 29 years old, drawing reactions from just about every corner of the internet."This is not an easy decision," Luck said. "For the last four years or so I've been in this cycle of injury, pain, rehab, injury, pain, rehab. And it's been unceasing and unrelenting ... and the only way I see out is to no longer play football."Injuries had kept Luck from playing in the preseason. Luck said the pain has taken away his joy for the game and he hasn't been able to live the life he wants to live. He played the 2016 season in pain, he said, and made a vow he wouldn't go down that road again. According to 744

By the time 2024 rolls around, we may be seeing brand new sports at the Summer Olympic Games. Some of the new sports include surfing, karate, skateboarding and breakdancing. A school in Washington, D.C. called The Lab is already training dancers in breakdancing to prepare them for Team USA.Competitive break dancer Evan Sletten has been a taking classes at The Lab for six years.“A lot of upper body strength goes into it,” Sletten describes of the sport.Sletten says he would describe it as an athletic dance. “Competitive breaking is very different in the sense that there’s rules,” explains The Lab owner Antonio Castillo. “There’s a point system. You have a referee. You have different criteria in place to make sure it’s a fair sport.”Castillo has considered breakdancing a sport for a long time, and he already uses an Olympic scoring model for his students.“We use a 10-point system and all of criteria is the definition of what the dance is, so you can’t argue against it because those are the elements that make up the dance,” Castillo says.Sletten says the point system helps with improvement.“It’s great because if you need to improve, you’re not just seeing win or lose,” he explains. “You’re seeing each category, every little thing that you did right that you did wrong.”In a way, this group of competitive break dancers has been gearing up for the gold for years already. So, if the sport gets to take the Olympic stage in 2024, they’ll be ready. “You’re going to have the first time in history that you’ll have a b-boy or b-girl be the Michael Phelps of breaking, and to me that’s the greatest thing ever!” says Castillo. 1650

As flames burn through Brazil's rainforest, its inhabitants are at risk of losing their homes. The fires pose a serious threat to the Amazon's delicate balance of ecosystems, putting pressure on already endangered species of animals.Expect a significant loss of wildlife, says Roberto Troya, Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean at the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
