SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KGTV) — California’s Senate has approved a measure to increase the scrutiny of hunting licenses used in gun sales, prompted by last year’s fatal shooting at a Poway synagogue. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 33-year-old man was in custody this morning on suspicion of trying to carjack a man in the Talmadge area.The victim was driving in the area of Euclid Avenue and El Cajon Boulevard around 2 p.m. Friday when the suspect grabbed onto the victim's vehicle and was able to get the passenger door open, Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department said.The suspect, identified as Christopher Gomez, got inside and began hitting the victim and asking for the vehicle, Heims said.The victim drove to a parking lot and got Gomez out of the vehicle. Gomez was later arrested, according to Heims.It was unclear whether the driver sustained any injuries. 681

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — The United States Attorney’s Office is asking anyone who might have gotten their immigration paperwork “lost” in the mail to please give them a call.Federal prosecutors have contacted 181 potential victims whose documents may have actually been intentionally destroyed by a former United States Postal Service employee in Salt Lake City.Special agents with the USPS identified the suspect as 77-year-old Diana Molyneux from West Jordan.Many of the victims were legal immigrants residing in Utah and Nevada who were waiting for their Permanent Resident Card, commonly referred to as a Green Card.“I pray for her. I really do,” said Eloisa Mendoza, the proprietor of Elko Hispanic Services. “I personally think she knew what was in those envelopes.”Mendoza told KSTU she worked with approximately 60 victims in Elko, Nevada. Whenever a client’s mail had a tracking number, Mendoza said it seemed like the documents always got stuck in Salt Lake City.“It’s really difficult for me to understand why (the suspect) would do something like that,” Mendoza said. “Issues. Personal issues… I do not know her, so I really cannot say if she’s racist or not. Goldbeck, a Democrat, has been a relative unknown in the race to replace retiring Congresswoman Susan Davis in the 53rd Congressional District. While newspaper circulation is down nationwide, the U-T gave Goldbeck an introduction to an audience she may not have been able to reach on her own. Bill Celis, an associate professor of journalism at USC Annenberg, said people still look to newspapers for reasoned guidance on important issues and candidates.
