SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Authorities responded Wednesday after a car slammed into the side of a motel in Point Loma.According to firefighters, the crash happened on the 1300 block of Scott Street at the Vagabond Inn San Diego Airport Marina.The driver was parked in the Point Loma Seafood parking lot when she reportedly hit the gas, driving through a fence and smashing into the side of the motel.The crash created a hole in a bathroom of one of the motel rooms. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Concerns and questions remain about why the County of San Diego won't release the locations of restaurants or grocery stores where employees have tested positive for COVID-19. The big question is, does the public have a right to know about specific locations where workers have tested positive? 10News continued on Tuesday to try to get answers since County officials confirmed on Sunday that multiple local food handlers have tested positive. On Monday, Sprouts confirmed that two employees from its Carlsbad store tested positive.It comes after the County confirmed that an Escondido Albertson's employee tested positive after 10News independently confirmed it Saturday.The County also reported that four local restaurant workers tested positive, but wouldn't say where.During Monday's press conference, 10News asked the County, “Should the public have a right to know which restaurants may have workers who have tested positive?” Dr. Nick Yphantides eventually said in part, “As far as the naming of the restaurants and so forth, it is only appropriate and relevant if there is actionable data upon which we are looking for members of the public or individuals to follow up on.”In the same press conference, Dr. Eric McDonald clarified that in certain disease cases, the County does provide names and locations, adding, “It's because it's specifically for the public to do something. We did that in Hepatitis A. We specifically named a restaurant so that individuals who patronized that restaurant could get shots to prevent illness.”He stressed that with coronavirus, it's different, saying, “In the case of COVID-19, because of the widespread community transmission, the advice to the public in a specific named restaurant would be no different than what we're giving already to the general public which is to stay at home [and] to social distance.”The County sent 10News the following statement on Tuesday afternoon."The County does not share the names of specific restaurants or grocers who have employees who test positive, but does not prohibit or discourage the respective entities from reporting the information if they feel it is in the interest of public health. We don’t report the names because, unlike in cases of TB, there is no additional action the public needs to take. Restaurants have very clear guidelines and have been diligent about following those guidelines as well as CDC protocols. Consumers need to take the same precautions to protect themselves at every restaurant they choose to pick up from by social distancing, regularly washing their hands and self-isolating if they develop any symptoms. Each restaurant worker case reported to County DEH is investigated by public health and DEH. In every case, an evaluation is made to determine if the worker worked while symptomatic and if their duties involved food handling that might put the public who ate at the restaurant (or purchased food at a grocery store) at any greater risk than general community exposure. In all instances thus far, no greater risk has been identified. It is important to note the CDC has said that currently there is no evidence to support transmission of COVID-19 associated with food. And so far, in all identified instances, these entities have done everything RIGHT in terms of actions for public health.... notice, cleaning, job analysis. There is no need for the public to do anything different based on this information about the grocers who have reported cases so far...indeed, one could argue that would be one of the safest places to shop, given their transparency on this case." 3796

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Awaken Church continues to hold indoors services, despite orders from San Diego County to close all indoor religious services due to COVID-19 restrictions.According to the San Diego County website, three of the Awaken Church locations have received cease and desist orders. The location at 7620 Balboa Ave. received a cease and desist order July 17, 2020; the Carlsbad location received one Nov. 16, 2020; and the Chula Vista location received one Nov. 19, 2020.RELATED: Churches pushing back against purple tier restrictionsIn addition, San Diego County put out a notice that anyone who went to the location at 7620 Balboa Ave. between Nov. 15 and Nov. 22 needs to quarantine for two weeks because of a community outbreak. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Cruise ship cancellations amid the Coronavirus pandemic have cost the region more than 0 million in lost economic activity, according to the Port of San Diego.The Port says since March, 75 cruises have canceled, meaning a 6 million loss in retail, restaurant, lodging and related transportation and shipping services. The 2020-2021 season, which was supposed to start Sept. 13, has already seen 49 cancellations. "When it’s safe for sailings to resume, we will do what we can to work with and support our cruise and public health partners to ensure the safety of cruise passengers, terminal staff, and the public," the Port said in a statement. The loss is hitting tourism-related businesses, already suffering from a loss of conventions, and social distancing restrictions. Chuck Abbott, general manager of the Intercontinental Hotel San Diego, just steps from the terminal, said cruisers usually stay a night pre or post cruise."It's still an amount of business that comes, which is beneficial," he said. "They're on leisure, and those people usually like to dine out and enjoy things."The CDC has halted cruising through at least Sept. 30. If that expires, San Diego's next arrival would be Nov. 5 through the Carnival Miracle. That dream retirement has suddenly been marred by worries about COVID-19 and a possible presidential action. According to published reports, President Trump is weighing rules to allow border officials to temporarily block an American citizen or legal permanent resident from entering, if there is reason to believe the person has coronavirus."Absolutely upsetting, absolutely upsetting," said Les Widd, 70.Details about the possible plan are unknown, but Widd has heard enough."It's violating your constitutional rights to receive treatment in your own country," said Widd.Widd says if either of them were to develop symptoms, they would have few options. Their hospital in Rosarito isn't accepting COVID-19 patients."In Tijuana hospitals, they are absorbing everything from surrounding towns. They're at the limit. Difficult to get a bed there," said Widd.Both the Widds have go-to hospitals in San Diego where they've received past treatments. Both are covered under Medicare, and they say they have a right to use it, especially during a pandemic."We worked all of our lives and paid into it. We should be able to use our Medicare," said Widd.He also questions how effective a border ban would be."If push comes to shove, I will try any way possible to get over the border ...
