(KGTV/CNS) - CHP officers are investigating a crash in Escondido that left a driver with burns to about 80 percent of his body Wednesday morning.The 22-year-old driver, who police believe is a current or former Marine, hit a tree at Bear Valley Pkwy north of Eldorado Dr. at 2:45 a.m.The vehicle caught fire but emergency crews put out the flames. Neighbors who heard the crash also helped the driver.CHP officers initially believed the driver was dead inside the vehicle but found him alive when they put out the flames.The man was taken to UCSD Medical Center with burns and other severe injuries.The investigation closed Bear Valley Pkwy from Bear Valley Rd. to SR-78 during the morning commute.  750

ENSENADA, Mexico (KGTV) — A San Diego dirt bike racer is recovering tonight in Mexico after a bizarre mid-race crash with a mystery SUV.On Saturday morning, about 60 miles southeast of Ensenada, 29-year-old Josear Carrasco was racing a course he knew well. On this day, he would not finish."Just devastated. It's really hard. He's my everything, so it's hard to see him like this," said his wife, Kylie.Kylie was in a truck along the course when she got the news. Josear was in second place, nearly done with his 100-mile stretch and about to turn his bike over to a teammate. That's when he says he collided with an SUV that had driven onto the course, headed toward him. "He tried to veer off to the right ... the car veered off in same direction. Then, a head-on collision. He doesn't remember anything after that," said Kylie.Josear was discovered by spectators and a teammate, with car parts scattered nearby."Something exploded. When they found him, his gear was just melted off," said Kylie.Josear suffered second-degree burns up and down the left side of his body and broken bones in his arms, legs, shoulder and shin. He also suffered a ruptured intestine, but he was alive."Once I saw him breathing, my heart dropped ... because that's all that matters," said Kylie.Josear has already undergone several surgeries at a hospital in Ensenada. His family trying to raise money for a medical transport back to San Diego, while Mexican authorities hunt for the hit-and-run driver. Federal authorities have taken a man into custody who claims to be the last person to see a missing Georgia woman, whose 2-year-old son was found wandering alone last month in a shirt and diaper at a South Florida parking lot.Federal authorities arrested Shanon Demar Ryan on two counts of lying to a federal officer, according to an online jail booking log for the Broward County Sheriff's Office.It was not immediately clear if the arrest had any connection to the disappearance of Leila Cavett, the 21-year-old mother whose child was found July 26 in Miramar. 570

Experts debunk the widely misunderstood notion that suicide rates spike during the holiday season.Ellen Eggert, with Kern Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, said people are less likely to take their lives during the holiday season."The reason it goes down is because people are more welcoming and forgiving during the holidays," Eggert said.Research from the Center for Disease Control shows that in 2015, December and November were two of the lowest months for suicides. 485

Facebook has taken down 652 pages, accounts and groups it says were part of a coordinated disinformation campaign. Some of the pages originated in Iran and Russia.The pages and groups were spreading misinformation in the United States, United Kingdom, Latin America and the Middle East while posing as a group called "Liberty Front Press."It also removed content that is says could be traced to groups previously connected to Russian military services. Those campaigns were not related to the Iran page, and did not target the US.Facebook made the announcement Tuesday evening.
