He also called for closer cooperation on the APEC Low-Carbon Model Town Project.Fourthly, Hu said it was necessary to encourage innovative growth.The president asked the APEC members to facilitate the cultivation and movement of innovative and high-skilled people, who could provide strong human capital and scientific and technological support for economic development, and promote a shift toward innovation-driven growth."Developed members of APEC should scale up technology transfer and help developing members build capacity for innovative growth," Hu said.Fifthly, Hu said APEC members should work to ensure secure growth to protect the results of economic development, calling for furthering exchanges and cooperation in counter-terrorism, disaster prevention and reduction, food security, energy and resources security and public health.The annual Economic Leaders' Meeting is the top decision-making body of the APEC forum. The theme for this year's meeting is "Change and Action."

S. dollars) in green energy development in the next five years, said Li Chunhong, an official from the local government of Guangdong.By 2010, the capacity of nuclear power in Guangdong will reach 24 million kilowatts, and new energy will account for 30 percent of the total energy consumed, Li said.Opened on Dec. 13 in Guangzhou City, capitial of Guangdong Province in south China, the two-day forum provides a platform for experts and officials from around Asia to discuss regional cooperation in developing green energy.The first Asia Energy Forum was successfully held in Guangzhou in August 2009, and the forum is to be held annually in Guangzhou.

  

BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- China said on Tuesday it would fulfill its obligations to the UN Convention Against Corruption.He Yong, deputy secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) of the Communist Party of China (CPC), made the remarks at a meeting.He said that China would give priority to fulfilling its binding obligations to the convention and improving its anti-corruption laws and regulations.He also stated that China would advance international cooperation on anti-corruption measures and learn the best international practices to advance China's anti-corruption efforts.The Tuesday meeting reviewed progress China made in fulfilling the UN Convention Against Corruption and outlined plans for the next stage in the battle.

  

WUHAN, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Monday that Premier Wen Jiabao's imminent visit to Russia and the 15th regular meeting between the Chinese and Russian prime ministers would further promote the bilateral relationship.Yang made the remarks while meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov at the 10th Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of China, Russia and India in central China's Wuhan city.However, Yang did not give a specific date for the prime ministers' meeting in Russia.During his meeting with Lavrov, Yang praised progress of the development of China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination this year. He said China was willing to work with Russia to comprehensively carry out the consensus of their leaders.Next year, the two countries would hold grand celebrations to mark the 10th anniversary of the signing of the China-Russia treaty of good neighborliness, friendship and cooperation, he said.He thanked Russia for its firm support to China on issues related to Taiwan, Tibet and Xinjiang.Lavrov said Russia placed special emphasis on promoting the bilateral strategic partnership of coordination, and was willing to enhance bilateral and international cooperation with China.Later Monday, Yang accompanied Lavrov to lay a wreath at the tomb of martyrs of the Soviet Air Force who died in World War II.
