SALT LAKE CITY — A pair of best friends who met while studying at Utah Valley University are taking a long, unique journey to deliver a message of peace.James Alan Thompson of Sandy and his friend Paul T. Chavez are walking across the United States.Their journey began on June 24 in San Francisco. They hope to complete the 3,000-mile journey in Washington, D.C., by December.They were inspired to make the trek after seeing civil unrest and protests erupt across the country.“What is it we can do to make an impact, instead of just complaining about what’s going on,” Thompson said. “Talk to people in person and talk to them about how they have received kindness in their lives."The friends hope that by connecting with individuals from all walks of life and from all over the country, they can show there is much more that unites people than divides.“It’s touching one life at a time, one day at a time,” Chavez said. “We are opening up a space for this conversation about peace.”“There are good people in this country. This country is not as divided as some think it is,” Thompson said.Thompson and Chavez are walking about 20 miles per day. They expect to pass through Utah sometime in August.“Once we reach Salt Lake City we will do a day of kindness where we bring people together. SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Former Disney Channel actor Stoney Westmoreland has been charged with six felony counts after authorities said he tried to have sex with a 13-year-old boy.Prosecutors say the 48-year-old Westmoreland was on the dating app Grindr when he found a profile operated by a police detective in Salt Lake City, near the location of the show "Andi Mack."A message left with Westmoreland's agent, Mitchell Stubbs, was not immediately returned.Charging documents say Westmoreland was arrested Dec. 13 after he took a car to meet the boy so they could go back to his hotel room.Charges filed Friday include attempted exploitation of a minor and enticing a minor.Westmoreland has been dropped from his role as the grandfather of the teenage title character in the Disney show.Westmoreland's other acting credits include "Scandal" and "Breaking Bad." 866

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A gunman who allegedly tried to mug a man he met online under the pretense of buying a gold chain outside a Chula Vista Costco, was behind bars Wednesday, facing a robbery charge.Albert Molina, 30, was arrested Tuesday after a scuffle in which the 23-year-old alleged victim snatched away his gun, fired a shot and held him at gunpoint while calling 911, according to police.Prior to the confrontation, Molina and the other man had communicated via OfferUp, an online service that facilitates private sales of used goods, Lt. Dan Peak said.Meeting the seller outside a Costco store in the 1100 block of Broadway, Molina agreed to buy a gold chain and provided a money order to supposedly pay for it. The two men tried to cash the check together, but found it was no good, according to police.They went to Molina's car and were sitting in it when the seller asked Molina to return his chain, which Molina was wearing, Peak said, adding "the suspect refused and pulled out a gun."The two men wrestled over the gun, which ended up in the seller's possession as he fell out of the vehicle. Believing Molina was going to run him over, he fired a round in Molina's direction, then held him at gunpoint while summoning police.Patrol officers arrived shortly after 7:30 p.m. and took both men into custody. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 19-year-old man was hospitalized Saturday morning with nine stab wounds suffered in a fight with another man in the Egger Highlands area of San Diego.Just before midnight Friday, the victim and the suspect got into a shouting match while standing in the doorway of the suspect's house in the 1700 block of Elm Avenue, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.The argument turned physical and the victim thought he was being punched, but it turned out he was being stabbed, Heims said. The victim was stabbed in both arms, the chest and stomach.He was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening wounds, Heims said.Officers responded to the suspect's home and arrested Homero Lunaosuna, 19, and recovered the knife used in the attack, Heims said. 809
