We looked to those two Republicans to be truly bipartisan and advocate for their respective states,” Kimpson said.However, State Senator Kimpson says U.S. Senator Graham had shown a very partisan approach since President Donald Trump got elected. City Councilor Perry Keith Waring agrees.“Believe it or not I have been a fan of Lindsey Graham for a lot of years. But it seems to me since John McCain died, he is not the moderate voice or somewhat independent thinking person that he once was," Waring said.KJ Kearney, a voter in his 30s, says Harrison understands the voice of all people. “I think the thing that he does understand is Black people are not a monolith. There are conservative Black people, there are liberal Black people, there are all types. And I think he sees the humanity in us and will accept us as the totality of Blackness and not just the Black block that voted for him or didn’t vote for him," Kearney said. SHERMAN HEIGHTS, Calif. (KGTV) - A storage facility for homeless people to keep their belongings is at capacity, leading some people to call for expansion.The facility is in Sherman Heights, near 20th Street and Commercial. It opened in June of 2018 with room for 500 bins.It was full by Halloween.Now there is a 200 person waiting list. The city initially wanted to put 1000 storage bins in the warehouse, but pushback from neighbors led to a compromise of just 500.Neighbors worried that the facility would be a magnet for homeless people, drawing them to the area.Six months later, people who spoke to 10News say the opposite has happened. They still see homeless people in the area, but not any more than before the facility opened.They also say the amount of clutter on the streets and sidewalks has decreased dramatically.Crime has also gone down in the area. According to the crimemapping.com website, there were 188 crimes reported within 1500 feet of the facility in August of 2018. In December, that number had dropped to 73 (see chart above).Part of that is from extra police patrol. A recent police department report says that SDPD is spending nearly million on overtime to add patrols in the neighborhood of the facility.City officials told the San Diego Union Tribune they have no plans to expand the facility. But at a meeting last month at the University of San Diego, several homeless advocated said it's an idea worth looking into. 1460

Starbucks bathrooms will be open to anyone who wants to use them, whether they're a paying customer or not, Chairman Howard Schultz said Thursday.Schultz made the announcement following the uproar over the way two black men were treated at a Starbucks in Philadelphia last month.The men asked to use the bathroom, but an employee told them it was only for paying customers. When they then sat in the store without ordering anything, the manager called police, and the men were arrested for trespassing. No charges were filed.Starbucks has since apologized to the men and announced plans for extra racial bias training for its employees."We don't want to become a public bathroom, but we're going to make the right decision 100% of the time and give people the key, because we don't want anyone at Starbucks to feel as if we are not giving access to you to the bathroom because you are less than. We want you to be more than," Schultz said during a talk at the Atlantic Council in Washington.Schultz said the company currently has a "loose" policy of only allowing paying customers to use the bathroom, with the decision ultimately left to the store manager.But he said the policy and the decision by the Philadelphia store manager last month were "absolutely wrong in every way.""It's the company that's responsible," he added.Starbucks didn't immediately respond to a request for further details about the change announced by Schultz.Starbucks has said it will close its 8,000 company-owned stores in the United States on the afternoon of May 29 to educate employees about racial bias.The training for about 175,000 workers "will be the largest kind of training of its kind on perhaps one of the most systemic subjects and issues facing our country," Schultz said.  1779
