An online platform connecting patients of color with doctors has seen record growth during the pandemic.HUED's goal is to help Black and Latinx patients get what they call “culturally competent care,” which means physicians who understand racial differences.“There are a lot of psychological barriers that exist in the health care system, which lead to fear, distrust, comfortability and lack of access to quality care for those reasons, and it's because it's systemic,” said Kimberly Wilson, founder and CEO of HUED.Wilson attributes HUED's spike in growth to the reckoning over racial disparities brought on by the Black Lives Matter movement, paired with the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on communities of color.Wilson's own experience of being diagnosed with uterine fibroids launched the idea for the startup. She saw four different white, male doctors near her home. Wilson says all of them either dismissed her pain or told her that she needed a hysterectomy.It wasn't until Wilson saw a Black provider, miles away, that she felt heard and learned of other options.“I wanted to develop a solution to that problem and to improve patient care experiences and really equip patients of color to really be their own self advocate, so that they don't go through the journey that I had,” said Wilson.Patients can sign up to access HUED's database of doctors on their website. An Ohio woman is filing a lawsuit against the Montgomery County Jail claiming excessive force was used against her.Marsha Pate-Strickland is suing the Montgomery county jail for this video-tapped incident.It happened back in 2015.Pate-Strickland says it all began when she asked a corrections officer at the jail if she could exchange her juice for milk.In the video, you can see the officer grab her and slam her to the floor.Pate-Strickland said she complained that her arm and shoulder were injured. But she refused medical attention.Now she claims she has permanent and debilitating injuries.Officials with the Montgomery County jail have not commented on the lawsuit. 710

An Alabama woman alleges Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore sexually assaulted her when she was a teenager, her attorney Gloria Allred said Monday.Allred said her client, Beverly Young Nelson, would be willing to testify under oath and called on the Senate judiciary committee to hold a hearing and subpoena Moore."Mr. Moore attacked me when I was a child," Nelson said, adding that she was 15 when he began flirting with her and 16 at the time of the alleged assault. "I want Mr. Moore to know that he no longer has any power over me."The allegations of force, if true, would be considered sexual abuse in the first degree, but the statute of limitations in effect at the time would have passed.Nelson detailed her allegations in a statement alongside Allred, an attorney who focuses on discrimination and women's rights.The accusations on Monday came after The Washington Post published a bombshell report last week based on interviews with more than 30 people, saying Moore pursued relationships with teenage women while he was in his 30s. One woman said she was 14 years old when Moore initiated sexual contact with her.Some Republicans have called for Moore to step aside in light of the accusations from the Post story. An 87-year-old grandmother using a knife to cut dandelions in the woods near her rural Georgia home last week was taken down by a police Taser and arrested, according to a police report.Martha Al-Bishara was arrested for criminal trespass and obstruction of a police officer, according to the report. Chatsworth Police said Al-Bishara did not drop a steak knife despite several commands and a demonstration by officers. At one point, she walked toward officers with the knife, police said.Police had gone to a wooded area near a Boys and Girls Club last Friday after an employee called 911 to report that an elderly woman was walking around with a knife in the community, around 80 miles north of Atlanta."There's a lady walking on the bike trails, she has a knife and she won't leave," the caller told a dispatcher. "She told me she doesn't speak English, and she's walking up the trail with a knife towards me.""It looks like she's walking around looking for something, vegetation to cut down or something. She has a bag too," the caller said.The Boys and Girls Club employee told the dispatcher that the woman did not seem to be a threat. "But she came at you with a knife, though, right?" the dispatcher asked.
