URUMQI, June 16 (Xinhua) -- A total of 380 Chinese nationals had returned home aboard Chinese chartered flights as of Tuesday night from southern Kyrgyzstan where ethnic clashes have left some 170 people dead.The Chinese government has sent four chartered planes to bring home nationals including business people and students in Kyrgyzstan. Three chartered planes dispatched on Monday and Tuesday have returned and the fourth one left at 9:37 p.m. Tuesday an airport in Urumqi, capital of northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, for Osh of Kyrgyzstan to fly home more Chinese nationals.More than 600 Chinese nationals living around Osh have been sent to the city's airport with help from the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the Chinese embassy in Kyrgyzstan. BEIJING, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- The state-owned assets in China's centrally-administered state-owned enterprises (SOE) reached 2.01 trillion yuan (297.40 billion U.S. dollars) by the end of June, up 10.71 percent from 2008, China's state-owned assets regulator said on Thursday.Nearly a quarter of the SOEs have state-owned assets over 10 billion yuan each, while six have state-owned assets over 100 billion yuan, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission said in a statement on its website."China's state-owned capital has been flowing towards big companies with international competitiveness," said the statement.Some 30 central SOEs are listed as Fortune 500 companies. They are in sectors such as telecommunications, power generation and petro-chemicals.The number of China's central SOEs is 123 in August this year, down from 196 at the beginning of 2003.

BEIJING, July 10 (Xinhua) -- More than 50 people have been killed and 15 are missing following floods, landslides and mud flows that hit parts of central and southern China following days of torrential rains, the Ministry of Civil Affairs said Saturday.Nearly 17.2 million residents in nine provinces were affected by flood-related disasters and 597,000 people were relocated from July 1 to 12 a.m. of July 10, the ministry said in its latest disaster relief update.About 946,500 hectares of farmland were damaged, including 133,900 hectares that were completely destroyed. Further, more than 42,000 houses collapsed and another 121,000 were damaged, the ministry said, estimating that direct economic losses could reach 8.9 billion yuan (1.3 billion U.S. dollars).The ministry sent 6,000 tents to the hardest-hit Hubei Province in central China and Chongqing Municipality in southwest China on Saturday.In June, torrential rains had resulted in 260 deaths and left 211 missing in 11 southern provinces.The latest round of storms began to pound large swaths of central and southern China on July 8.In Hubei, the local weather forecast bureau said storms or thunder storms could hit the province again from July 11 to 13. It warned that rainfall would exceed 300 millimeters in some worst-hit areas, which was likely to trigger another round of heavy floods.The Three Gorges Dam, sitting in the middle reach of the Yangtze River in Hubei, on Saturday released water for the first time this year.Engineers opened three sluice gates to discharge some 32,000 cubic meters of water per second and another sluice gate to release floating objects.The flood from the upper stream reaching the dam was measured at 36,000 cubic meters of water per second and could increase to 39,000 cubic meters per second by Sunday, dam officials said.Authorities said water levels in many branches of the 6,397-meter-long Yangtze River that runs from west to east, had gone above the warning lines. At Wulong monitoring station in Chongqing the water level was three meters above the warning line.In southwest China's Guizhou Province, several counties and villages were submerged in more than one meter deep water. About 7,500 residents were evacuated from the flooded zones.Also, four miners were killed in a gas explosion after heavy rain cut off electricity and stopped ventilation equipment at a coal mine in Xishui County of Guizhou's Zunyi City early Saturday morning. Seven of the 25 miners who were working underground managed to escape when the explosion occurred. Rescuers later saved 14 other miners.

ZHOUQU, Gansu, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- At least 127 people have been confirmed dead in rain-triggered mudslides Sunday in a northwest China county, while rescuers are racing against the clock to search nearly 1,300 others who are still missing.Heavy downpours triggered landslides and mud-rock flows in Zhouqu County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Gansu Province, early Sunday morning.The rescue headquarters in Zhouqu estimated that 1,294 people are missing as of 9 p.m. Sunday. Earlier the provincial civil affairs department put the figure at nearly 2,000.Another 117 were injured, including 29 in serious condition, as of 9:25 p.m.. In addition, 1,242 have been rescued from debris or brought to safety from places such as tops of buildings.About 45,000 people have been evacuated, according to a statement from the provincial civil affairs department.The water level in the county seat of Chengguan Township had declined by 40 cm, after floodwaters carrying mud and rocks submerged half the town in the small hours on Sunday, said Mao Shengwu, head of the prefecture.Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao instructed the Gansu provincial government and other related departments to spare no efforts to save lives. Wen arrived at Zhouqu County at 4:35 p.m.The China National Committee for Disaster Reduction, the State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters and the Ministry of Civil Affairs have lifted the national disaster relief response level to grade II, the second highest level.
