SEATTLE, Washington — Calling all Harry Potter fans: Seattle, Washington’s coolest dad has created a wizarding world and we got a look inside this real-life version of Diagon Alley before it began its journey to a new home to help children.Johnathan Chambers said his kids always wanted him to create something special for Halloween."I posed a question to my girls, 'What can we do for Halloween or Christmas?' It was in the summer, to like go big. And one of them said, 'Diagon Alley'," he said.Chambers was fully committed to making this the best Diagon Alley fans had ever seen, but he had to leave his job to accomplish this project.  He decided to create the real-life Diagon Alley in his driveway. Chambers has been a creative director for more than 20 years and focusing on the details was his forte.At this Diagon Alley, muggles are allowed in. They walk into a magical filled with an assortment of shops and items on Hogwarts'  supply list. There is Olivander’s Wand Shop, Eyelops' Owl Emporium, Madam Malkin’s Robes for all Occasions and Flourish and Blotts where students buy their school books.Once word got out about the Diagon Alley Project, fans from around the world flocked to see this wizarding world in Washington.“They walk in the door and some of them have burst into tears. It’s been incredible," Chambers said.From overzealous screams, hysterical cries and a few marriage proposals, the Diagon Alley Project became a bigger success than Chambers ever imagined.As thousands of muggles roamed through their fantastical getaway, Chambers and his family realized they had an opportunity to make an even bigger difference. They decided to collect donations from visitors to raise money for cancer research. They raised ,000.We visited Diagon Alley as Chambers was beginning to disassemble it for its next phase.  He donated it to Camp Kory, a camp for children who have serious medical conditions, so the kids can now enjoy it.Through this magical creation, the Chambers family also started their own non-profit to continue their quest to bring joy to those who need it most.As for his next big adventure, Chamber’s plans on building the Death Star from Star Wars. 2238

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Republican John Cox focused on his stance to try and fix the high cost of living in California, while Democrat Gavin Newsom highlighted his opposition to Trump during a debate Monday. The hour-long public radio debate remained civil, with the two candidates for governor sparring on policy and mostly avoiding personal attacks.Cox pledged to reduce taxes and regulations that he says drive up the cost of living in the nation's most populous state while Newsom, a former mayor of San Francisco, is running on his willingness to make bold decisions and his opposition to Trump.RELATED: San Diego County key dates to know before Election DayNeither strayed from their well-worn positions, and the debate appeared to do little to change the race in which Newsom is heavily favored."We represent the vast majority of Californians that reject John Cox's absolute allegiance to Trump and Trumpism," Newsom, California's lieutenant governor, said during what's likely to be the only one-on-one contest between the two men.Both candidates agreed that tackling issues such as housing affordability, homelessness and California's cost of living should be the priority of the next governor, but they presented vastly different visions for how to proceed.The two also sparred on criminal justice reform, immigration and the environment.RELATED: California sets record as voter registration tops 19 million"This campaign is about change versus the status quo. Segway says it will end production of its namesake two-wheeled personal transporter, popular with tourists and police officers but perhaps better known for its high-profile crashes. The company, founded in 1999 by inventor Dean Kamen, will retire the Segway PT on July 15. The company said 21 employees will be laid off. SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A father and his two children helped rescue a man who was stranded in the Santa Fe National Forest for 14 days.John Utsey launched an unexpected two-day rescue mission Saturday after hearing a call for help while hiking with his kids toward the Santa Fe Baldy.Utsey gave the man food and water before hiking back to the trailhead to call 911.Santa Fe firefighters arrived within the hour, but called off the unsuccessful search after eight hours.Utsey then returned to the spot Sunday, called 911 again and led crews to the man.Once the man was located, the Santa Fe Fire Department says its crews built a fire to bring up his body temperature, which was dangerously low. They also fed and gave him water.The department says the man suffered from chronic back pain, injured his back while hiking and couldn’t stand or walk.The man told first responders that his gear stolen and ended up getting lost and disoriented.The man is now recovering at a local hospital. 992

(CNS) - Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl was spotted dining outdoors at a restaurant in Santa Monica hours after voting to uphold a ban on outdoor dining due to a surge in COVID-19 cases, it was reported Monday.Kuehl had dinner at Il Forno Trattoria on Tuesday, soon after voting to uphold the county's new restrictions that were announced two days before, according to Fox11, which said it received multiple tips. During the board meeting, Kuehl called outdoor dining "a most dangerous situation."A representative for Kuehl told Fox11, "She did dine al fresco at Il Forno on the very last day it was permissible. She loves Il Forno, has been saddened to see it, like so many restaurants, suffer from a decline in revenue. She ate there, taking appropriate precautions, and sadly will not dine there again until our Public Health Orders permit."Kuehl was one of three board members voting to allow the ban to take effect as scheduled, while board members Kathryn Barger and Janice Hahn asked that outdoor dining be allowed to continue, arguing that the ban is too punitive to restaurants in response to a surge that has largely been blamed on private gatherings rather than outdoor dining."This is a serious health emergency and we must take it seriously," Kuehl said Tuesday, according to Fox11."The servers are not protected from us, and they're not protected from their other tables that they're serving at that particular time, plus all the hours in which they're working."The county Department of Public Health announced Nov. 22 that in- person dining would be halted at 10 p.m. Wednesday and continuing for three weeks.The move came in response to a surge that has now seen new daily COVID- 19 cases average more than 4,000 over the previous five days."Outdoor dining is probably more dangerous in terms of contagion than any other kind of business," Kuehl said earlier.Kuehl said diners at restaurants "sit for hours with no masks on" and are in close proximity to servers and patrons walking by. 2042
