The Florida House on Wednesday passed legislation that would impose new restrictions on firearm sales and allow some teachers and staff to carry guns in school.The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act was spurred by the February 14 shooting in Parkland, Florida. The Department of Justice announced Thursday that 57 people have been arrested across the country for fraud related to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP).In a press conference Thursday, officials with the Department of Justice said that the suspects attempted to steal millions of dollars of taxpayer money.The PPP was established in the CARES Act, a stimulus package signed into law in March amid the coronavirus pandemic. The funds were meant to be used by small businesses to keep their businesses afloat.Officials said some of those arrested used the funds to buy "flashy or expensive" luxury items for themselves, rather than use the funds for their businesses. The DOJ also described that some of the suspects were part of "coordinated criminal rings" meant to obtain the funds through fraud.While officials did not put a specific dollar amount on the amount of funds stolen, officials called the number "significant." The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has cleared the Boeing 737 Max to return to the skies, The Associated Press reports.The plane has been grounded in the U.S. since March 2019 after it was involved in two deadly crashes just months after initial orders for the model had been fulfilled. The two crashes — one which occurred in Africa, the other in Asia — killed a combined 346 people.In Congressional hearings last September, Boeing officials say the plane's software included a fatal flaw that caused a nosedive in certain situations.In addition to the human cost of the software error, the Boeing 737 Max has proven to be malignant for Boeing's business. According to CNN, Boeing says the grounding of the 737 Max has resulted in billion in direct costs. Boeing's stock fell 100 points between March 2019 and January 2020 — a massive loss even before the COVID-19 pandemic dragged the entire market down with historic losses. "These 20 months they took to look at every possible issue with the aircraft is more than enough time to make it safe to go back in the air," said Kevin Kuhlmann, an Aviation and Aerospace Science Professor at Metro State University. "It's no small undertaking to go through and develop this training, put the pilots through the training and absorb the cost of the training."In October, American Airlines announced it would begin using the plane on certain routes in late December, pending FAA approval. The company says it will provide flexibility to passengers who do not want to fly on the plane.Other airlines like Southwest say they won't be putting the plane back in rotation until April. 1641

The Cannon House Office Building on Capitol Hill was evacuated after an alarm sounded. But it was given an all-clear a short time later.There are no reports yet on why and whether it was related to the string of explosive devices being received by politicians and media throughout the nation this week.The Hill reports the alarm went off and people were urged to calmly evacuate. Nearby Independence Avenue was shut down as authorities investigated.The building was built in Washington D.C. in 1908, according to the Architect of the Capitol website. In 1962, the building was named for former Speaker of the House Joseph Gurney Cannon.
