NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The 65th Nashville Christmas Parade Organizers have announced that Kid Rock will no longer serve as the Grand Marshal of the Nashville Christmas Parade. The organizers have stated that they believe the Grand Marshal should "personify the spirit of Nashville" and therefore, have invited James Shaw Jr. to hold this honor. Shaw became a hero in the community after stopping a shooting at a local Waffle House earlier this year. This news came after Nashville Mayor David Briley announced he may not participate in the city’s Christmas parade if Kid Rock remained the Grand Marshal. The Mayor’s Office issued a statement Friday, saying “if Kid Rock is still the grand marshal tomorrow, the Mayor is inclined not to participate.” Briley’s statement came just hours after Kid Rock’s appearance on “Fox & Friends,” in which he called Joy Behar a “b----.” “God forbid you say something a little bit wrong, you’re a racist, homophobic, Islamophobic, this that and the other. Moderna is asking American regulators to allow emergency use of its COVID-19 vaccine. It says its final results show the vaccine is 94% effective.The drug maker says it had 196 COVID-19 cases so far in its study. It says 185 of those participants received the placebo, while 11 got the real vaccine. The 30 people who became seriously ill in the trial didn't get the vaccine.FDA advisors are expected to look at all the evidence on December 17. They use what's called messenger RNA (mRNA) technology. Just this demonstration of how incredibly fast they can move has been great. How effective they can be, I think will depend on a particular disease,” said Shane Crotty, Ph.D. with the La Jolla Institute for Immunology.Crotty says the narrowest application for this vaccine technology in the future is a similar situation where there's a new emerging virus."The mRNA vaccine has been tried for other infectious diseases and they have been investigated for cancer. The second debate, which would have been held town hall style, was canceled after President Donald Trump declined to participate when the commission announced the debate would be held virtually due to Trump's recent coronavirus infection.Who’s participating?The debate will be moderated by Kristen Welker, a White House correspondent for NBC News and co-anchor of “Weekend TODAY.” It will be Welker's first general election debate she has moderated, but she co-moderated the fifth Democratic debate during the 2020 primary season.President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden plan on participating in the debate. No other candidates, like Libertarian Jo Jorgensen, qualified to take part in the debate, based on the Commission on Presidential Debates’ candidate selection criteria.What will be discussed?The debate commission allows each moderator to decide which topics are discussed. Last Friday, Welker announced that the following topics would be addressed Thursday night: fighting COVID-19, American families, race in America, climate change, national security, and leadership.Earlier this week, Trump’s campaign manager, Bill Stepien, claimed the CPD had “promised” that Thursday’s debate would be about foreign policy and asked for Welker’s topics to be discarded. (KGTV) -- Police in National City are investigating after a man was shot and killed near a 7-Eleven early Sunday morning. Police responded to the 100 block of North Highland Avenue just before 5 a.m. after receiving reports of gunshots in the area.After arriving, police found a 55-year-old man who had been shot. (KGTV) -- A suspect was taken into custody Monday night after an hours-long standoff in National City following a shooting. According to deputies, the shooting happened on the 2300 block of Prospect Street near Lincoln Acres School. Authorities confirmed that one person was shot but were unable to give further details. Deputies say the suspect barricaded himself inside a home after the shooting. A portion of Prospect Street was closed off for hours due to the incident.  529
