Voters were polarized after learning of Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation as a Supreme Court Justice. Both Republicans and Democrats who spoke with 10News on camera said they are frustrated with the way Doctor Christine Blasey?Ford's accusations were handled.READ RELATED:Brett Kavanaugh sworn in as Supreme Court justice"I'm truly just disgusted with the outcome and I'm just really disappointed with in our nation and what we stand for today," College Student Ngozi Egeonu said."It's very disappointing, I think it's very hurtful," Republican Ana Assaf said."He didn't give straight answers to me it seemed, then again I didn't see the whole interview, only saw bits and pieces," San Diegan Melvin Zelaya said.Egeonu said she's now concerned about Dr. Ford, "Now I'm worried about her own safety, and her own image knowing that she put herself out there and knowing this is something very traumatic that she's having to recall."They all agreed the FBI investigation felt rushed and inconclusive."I think it was disrespectful to the ladies who accused him and I don't think the whole, they didn't have enough time to investigate," Assaf said."I was surprised that that wasn't enough for them to be like hey, no we shouldn't nominate him," Zelaya said. Some believe the accusations are false and the timing is inappropriate, calling it a smear campaign. Zelaya says the past is relevant, "I think it is important because you know being on the Supreme Court is a really big deal, you're going to be on there the rest of your life and you're going to be making decisions that affect every citizen in this country's life."With the highly publicized hearings, some hope it will bring change."With this experience maybe he'll be open and fair, but I mean if he's already been sworn in there's nothing we can do now," Assaf said."I don't know if it will be enough to make an impact on how he stands as a person, I wish it would but I don't see that being much of a change for him," Egeonu said.Kavanaugh's confirmation tips the court in favor of Conservatives, concerning some voters. Zelaya said it is better to have an even and fair court. He said he was fond of Antonin Scalia because he was the wild card.An issue many women are concerned about is abortion and how Kavanaugh will vote on those cases."We have all these issues that are recycling from the past and I don't feel like anything is getting better, I hope with this people are able to wake up," Egeonu said.Kavanaugh's first cases are next week and focus on immigration, asbestos and firearms. 2639

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- If you are working from home, you may have bought some new items to accommodate the situation, or you are probably using more of the resources you already pay for.If you were planning on writing off these new expenses on your next tax return, "Unfortunately, there are no tax benefits to working from home if you are an employee,¡± Scott Rinehart, a tax professional and financial advisor with Carlson Financial, said. While tax season is months away, Rinehart said he has already received some questions from people."I've had people ask, 'since I work from home, can I deduct my office now?'¡± he explained.Say, for example, if you bought a laptop and it cost a couple hundred dollars, the rent on your apartment or certain utilities like electricity -- just to name a few examples -- you cannot write those off on your taxes.¡°The tax act a few years ago got rid of that tax break for employees,¡± Rinehart said.He mentioned an exception, however."If you are self-employed and now instead of going to your office, you're working from home, you can deduct a portion of your home you're using as your office."It is the same scenario for those homeschooling their children, Rinehart added, but he explained that extra paid leave was provided in the Family First Coronavirus Response Act for parents tending to their children.A tax write-off normally helps to reduce the amount of tax you owe."I think there will be folks who will try to claim these expenses when they itemize,¡± Rinehart said, ¡°or add some sort of miscellaneous deduction, and they're just not going to be allowed."If you do make these claims or accidentally file for a write-off, Rinehart said, ¡°You may get a letter from the IRS at some point saying, 'Hey, you owe us some money.¡¯¡±In that event, Rinehart said the IRS will try to work with the filer to fix the issue. It may result in additional payments.Rinehart suggested tracking your expenses, organize receipts and use free tax resources online, as well as the IRS."Otherwise, it always makes sense to - if you have a more complex tax situation - have a professional look at it,¡± Rinehart said. This story originally reported by Julio Avila on wtkr.com. 2201

VISTA, Calif. ¨C A Carlsbad pastor whose wife caught him molesting a female family member was sentenced to 15 years in prison Tuesday afternoon. Matthew Tague stood in Superior Court in Vista to read a statement of apology; taking 100 per cent responsibility for hurting those closest to him and saying he's getting counseling for his sex addiction."For all these things, I am and will be truly and profoundly repentant and in light of my terrible and reprehensible actions. I would like to share why I'm grateful that I was discovered on May 5, 2017."His wife stood then, talking about rehabilitation and forgiveness. "This sentence my husband faces, we all know is indeed lifelong; no matter what number of years is decided, these events will follow him for the rest of his life."Deputy district attorney Patricia Lavermicocca hammered on Tague's role in the community, as pastor of North Coast Calvary Chapel. "This isn't just a father; he is a pastor who teaches the community the morally right thing to do."Judge Daniel Goldstein noted Tague's selfishness and aggression, calling his acts outrageous and heinous. "I do consider that you never had a criminal history but you stepped off the deep end."Tague, 44, pleaded guilty in February to two counts of lewd act on a child.According to Deputy District Attorney Patricia Lavermicicca, Tague repeatedly molested the victim between 2016 and 2017 when she was 12 and 13 years old.RELATED: Carlsbad pastor arrested on child molestation chargesTague¡¯s wife reported him to the authorities after catching him in the act in May of 2017. 1597

Volkswagen has been fined another €800 million (6 million) over its diesel emissions scandal, this time because of failings at its Audi subsidiary.Volkswagen said Tuesday it accepted the fine imposed by German prosecutors, waving its right to appeal. It said the penalty would hit earnings this year."As a negative special item, [it will] reduce the group earnings for fiscal year 2018 accordingly," it said in a statement. The penalty by Munich prosecutors is just the latest consequence of the scandal that emerged in 2015 and initially wiped out billions off the company's value.Volkswagen admitted cheating on clean air rules with software that made emissions look less toxic than they actually were. The fine concludes the Munich prosecutors' investigation into the company. However, probes into executives, including Audi's former CEO Rupert Stadler, continue, the prosecutors said. The €800 million fine comprises a €5 million penalty for administrative offenses, the maximum allowed under German law.On top of that, prosecutors ordered Volkswagen to repay €795 million they said the company made from the cheating. The prosecutors said this included profits from the sales of affected vehicles. In this case, the diesel emissions cheating affected nearly 5 million cars sold by the Volkswagen group in Europe and the United States, prosecutors said. Specifically, it concerned V6 and V8 diesel engines manufactured by Audi and installed in Audi, Volkswagen and Porsche brands, and Audi vehicles equipped with EA 189 and EA 288 engine made by Volkswagen.Shares in Volkswagen (VLKAF) and Audi (AUDVF) were trading higher on Tuesday. Volkswagen stock is down 11 percent so far this year. 1699

WASHINGTON ¡ª The Supreme Court is denying Congress access to secret grand jury testimony from special counsel Robert Mueller¡¯s Russia investigation through the November election. The justices agreed Thursday to hear the Trump administration¡¯s appeal of a lower court order for the material to be turned over to the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives. The high court¡¯s action will keep the documents out of congressional hands at least until the case is resolved, which is not likely to happen before 2021. The delay is a victory for Trump, who also is mounting a court fight against congressional efforts to obtain his banking and other financial records. 675
