BEIJING, June 14 (Xinhua) -- China's State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters (SFDH) has sent four working teams Monday to help flood control in provinces and regions pounded by heavy rains that triggered floods and mud slides.The flood control authority held a meeting Monday night with the Ministry of Water Resources agreeing to dispatch one more working team to central Hunan Province to help consolidate river banks along the upper reaches of the Xiangjiang River and ensure the safety of reservoirs.Three other teams were separately sent Monday afternoon to Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and the eastern province of Fujian.From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, torrential rains pelted Guangxi, provinces of Guangdong, Fujian, Hunan and Jiangxi. Some regions even saw rainstorms, according to the SFDH.At least 24 people are missing after flash floods and landslides triggered by heavy rains engulfed two vehicles in Fujian Province Monday, according to a local official.The authority asked the Guangxi team to help with floods control and mud slides prevention work there. It ordered the team sent to Fujian to help with rescue work.The team for Xinjiang will help investigate the collapse of a reservoir dam in Xinjiang on Monday morning after heavy rains on the previous night.The local government had evacuated more than 200 families living downstream the reservoir. No casualties are reported so far.

PARIS, July 9 (Xinhua) -- China Changan Auto Group Corporation (CCAG) and French leading carmaker PSA Peugeot Citroen signed a contract Friday here on the creation of an equally owned joint venture in China.The contract was signed by Xu Bin, president of China South Industries Group Corporation, Changan's main shareholder, and Philippe Varin, chairman of the French part's Managing Board, at a ceremony attended by Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Bernard Accoyer, president of the National Assembly of France.Their initial cooperation will focus on introducing the Citroen DS line in China and launching a dedicated new brand for the venture, the two companies said in a joint statement.The contract also allows for the joint venture to market, at a later date, further vehicles under the partners' other brands, Peugeot and Changan, they said.Based in Shenzhen, southeast of China, the joint venture will have initial annual production capacity of 200,000 vehicles and engines, which will meet the highest environmental standards. The contract also outlined two production lines, a specific range of vehicles by each side and a research and development center.The new joint venture will be capitalized at RMB 4 billion yuan (590 million U.S. dollars), to be shared equally by the two partners, and backed by an initial investment of RMB 8.4 billion yuan (1.24 billion dollars).The first vehicle is scheduled to be launched in second-half 2012, provided the joint venture is finally approved by the relevant authorities, the statement concluded.

BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Health has said it will draw upon its experience from the H1N1 flu control to ensure prevention of the general flu, as the World Health Organization (WHO) announced plans for the post-pandemic period."Based on the experience from A/H1N1 prevention and control, we will revise emergency plans and will continue flu prevention efforts in a bid to ensure people's health," said a statement released late Tuesday by the ministry.Figures from the ministry show that the weekly new A/H1N1 cases have remained below 30 since mid-April. Further, no deaths have been reported for 12 consecutive weeks.While announcing the coming of the post-pandemic period, WHO Director-General Margaret Chan warned that the A/H1N1 virus will continue to spread as a seasonal flu for some years.Chan urged health authorities to maintain alert for the virus.So far, about 800 deaths from A/H1N1 influenza had been reported in China, Health Minister Chen Zhu said earlier.More than 100 million Chinese have been vaccinated against A/H1N1 flu as of May 14.The A/H1N1 virus was first identified in Mexico in April 2009. GENEVA, June 14 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese official on Monday called for continued international cooperation in tackling unemployment and other social problems caused by the global financial crisis."The international financial crisis is still ongoing, and in particular jobs recovery in many countries lag far behind their economic recovery," said Wang Xiaochu, deputy minister of human resources and social security."As the destiny of countries is interconnected in this world, we need to work together like passengers in the same boat to overcome the impact of the crisis, strive to build a global environment that is more fair and equitable, and achieve as quickly as possible recovery and inclusive growth through decent work," Wang said.The official was addressing a high-level session of the 99th International Labor Conference, which lasts from June 1 to June 18 focusing on global employment issues following the economic crisis.Wang said the Chinese government had adopted a host of measures aimed at promoting a more active employment policy and improving the social security system, as part of the country's efforts to implement the International Labor Organization's Global Jobs Pact.He said those measures had been successful. "By the end of 2009, the most difficult period for employment in China was over. Some 11.02 million new jobs had been created in urban areas in the whole year.""The employment situation for the youth is better than previous years.
