SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Surveillance video captured the moment after a thief stole a woman's wallet inside a Midway District grocery store.According to San Diego Crime Stoppers, the theft happened on Sept. 23 inside the Ralph’s grocery store located at 3345 Sports Arena Blvd.While the 73-year-old female victim was in the freezer section, the man waited for the victim to open a freezer door and then approached her shopping cart. The suspect quickly removed the victim's wallet from her purse, which was placed at the top of the shopping cart.The victim was right next to the cart but was looking inside a freezer when the theft occurred.The suspected thief walked away without the victim realizing what had happened. The total loss of the wallet and cash inside it is over ,500.Investigators reviewed store surveillance footage, which showed the man following the victim throughout the store and appearing to target her.The suspected thief is described as a white male, approximately 5’10“ tall, 175 lbs., with tanned skin. He was wearing a light-colored baseball cap with black sunglasses on the front of the cap, a light green short-sleeve button-up shirt, gray shorts, and black sandals.Anyone with information should call the San Diego Police Department's Western Division at (619) 692-4800 or the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477.Crime Stoppers is offering up to a ,000 reward to anyone with information that leads to an arrest. 1463

Anyone who believes they have symptoms resembling the novel coronavirus (which are fever, coughing, and shortness of breath) is asked to contact their medical provider, who will help determine if they need to be tested."We have already identified and issued warning letters to companies found selling and promoting fraudulent items, and we expect additional such actions will be forthcoming," the FDA said.Anyone who believes they have found a vendor selling fake testing kits can report them to the FDA. 1570

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The King family, who launched "Chelsea's Light" after the rape and murder of their daughter Chelsea in 2009, has decided to end the popular "Finish Chelsea's Run" event after eight years.In an interview with 10News from the family's home near Chicago, Chelsea's father, Brent, said they are proud of the impact they have been able to have through "Finish Chelsea's Run," but that it was time to move on from the event."Our family wants to thank everybody that has ever come out to run in our race. It's spectacular. It's beautiful. It brings us a lot of joy. But at the same time, it reminds us how we lost our little girl," King said.Chelsea was a 17-year-old student at Poway High in 2010 when she went for a run at Rancho Bernardo Community Park. A registered sex offender, John Gardner, later pleaded guilty to dragging King into a secluded area near Lake Hodges, raping her, and strangling her to death. He buried the body nearby.Shortly after his arrest, Gardner also admitted to the murder of an Escondido teen, Amber DuBois, who had disappeared a year earlier.The King family began the "Chelsea's Light" Foundation, through which it carried out "Finish Chelsea's Run" and a companion baseball tournament. King says "Chelsea's Light" will continue to exist and raise money. However, he has launched a new nationwide organization called "Protect the Joy."King says he will use the experience he gained helping pass "Chelsea's Law" legislation in several states to protect youth from sex offenders to help build a bigger, stronger organization dedicated to issues of defending children."I've built an organization that mirrors the Sierra Club, or the Surfrider Foundation, or Greenpeace. But you might think twice about overspending on Black Friday or Cyber Monday when you take a closer look at the FIRE movement to help you make it in San Diego. Amon Browning and his wife Christina were recently featured on ABC News. The San Francisco couple just retired, and they’re only 40 years old. “I was making ,000 a year, and Christina was making about ,000 a year,” says Amon Browning. In just eight years, they managed to save million by investing 70 percent of their income through a method called FIRE, which is short for Financial Independence, Retire Early. Mah is the Community Liaison for a local FIRE Chapter in San Diego called Choose FI, as in Financial Independence. They gathered to learn what it takes, mostly significant financial sacrifices, to retire early. “The American Dream is getting a college degree, and this job, and this white picket fence. But all of that has this huge debt behind it,” claims a woman interviewed for the documentary.The goal of the film is to get people thinking about where they spend their money. “The consumerism culture is harmful. It really hurts people,” says another man as video of a massive Black Friday rush appears on the big screen.Ultimately, the documentary portrays how consumerism and marketing place so many Americans on the edge of bankruptcy. “We are spending money we don’t have to buy things we don’t need to impress people we don’t know,” says another man in the documentary in an ominous tone. Nearly half, 44 percent, have credit card debt, and only 38 percent have an emergency fund. Those in the Choose FI community are the opposite. “People in the FI Community have a savings rates upwards of 40 percent,” says Mah. Meaning nearly half of their income is going into savings. Everyone in the movement is different in their quest to save and retire early; there’s no one specific way to do it. “Some things that most people cut: really expensive cable, really expensive phone bills, streaming services,” adds Mah. For others, it’s more drastic, like downsizing a house or giving up an expensive car for a used one. Everything is always going to be out of your control.”“Even if I don’t reach financial independence, retire early, I think I will be better for trying than not to try at all,” says Mah. The FIRE movement takes a great deal of sacrifice. To be successful like the Brownings, you must reduce spending, pay off your debts, and maximize your savings by setting aside 40 to 60 percent of your income. Finally, you must have 25 times the amount you plan to spend annually in retirement. 3809
