ANNAPOLIS, Md. — A municipal government in China has donated 40,000 medical-grade face masks to Maryland’s capital city amid the coronavirus pandemic.The donations from Changsha, China, were first offered to Annapolis city officials in April, when the need for the masks among public safety workers was high in the beginning of the pandemic, Annapolis City Manager David Jarrell said in a news release Tuesday.They arrived this month, with one of the boxes featuring strikers of American and Chinese flags with a message that read: “Go, City of Annapolis! Best Wishes from Changsha! True unity inspires people to work as one to overcome adversity,” The Capital Gazette reported.Another note from Yani Xia, a representative in the Chinese city’s Foreign Affairs Office, accompanied the shipments. “We sincerely wish you and everyone in Annapolis continued good health, and the fortitude to persevere during this challenging period,” Xia’s note read.Annapolis’ relationship with Changsha began under a former city administrator, according to the release. An Idaho couple is now facing more charges in connection with the disappearance and deaths of two children.Chad Daybell now faces four felony charges for evidence destruction or concealment. Lori Vallow Daybell is facing two counts of conspiracy to commit destruction, alteration or concealment of evidence, according to the iCourt Portal, in addition to other charges.The new charges come after Rexburg police served a search warrant at Chad Daybell’s Salem, Idaho home on Monday. Officers went into the house, exterior buildings, and were seen in the backyard with cameras. They left with brown evidence bags but it is not known if the search is tied to the new charges of conspiracy. She’s been in the Madison County Jail on million bail.Idaho officials discovered the remains of 7-year-old JJ Vallow and 17-year-old Tylee Ryan. buried in Daybell's backyard on June 9. The two are Vallow Daybell's children. JJ and Tylee were reported missing in late 2019. Their remains were found in Rexburg, Idaho, in June on property owned by Daybell, their stepfather. The children's mother, Lori Daybell (née Vallow), was arrested in connection with their disappearance earlier this year.According to the probable cause affidavit for Daybell's arrest, the remains of one child was found wrapped in plastic and sealed with duct tape. ANAHEIM (CNS) - Disney officials informed Anaheim Wednesday that they have canceled plans for a 700-room luxury hotel at Disneyland Resort in light of the city's decision to scrub tax-incentive deals for the project.The Anaheim City Council voted Aug. 28 to cancel the tax-incentive deals because the project had changed over time, including a new location. And while there's no doubt that AstroTurf and its modern equivalent, FieldTurf, have changed the way pro football and baseball have been played, the surfaces have generally been considered safe for athletes to play on.But on Monday, the NFL Player's Association formally called on team owners to "proactively change all field surfaces to natural grass," citing higher rates of injuries to players who are playing on artificial fields.In an open letter, NFLPA President J.C. Tretter — a center for Cleveland Browns in the midst of his eighth NFL season — claimed that most of his teammates preferred to play on grass, noting that his joints felt "noticeably stiffer" after playing on artificial turf."The unforgiving nature of artificial turf compounds the grind on the body we already bear from playing a contact sport," Tretter wrote.In his letter, Tretter wrote that real grass offers more "give," reducing the stress on feet, ankles and knees. He also noted that NFL injury data shows players have a 28% higher rate of non-contact lower extremity injuries when playing on artificial turf.Tretter also noted that despite harsh conditions, cold-weather cities like Cleveland, Green Bay and Pittsburgh still use traditional grass fields. In addition, indoor stadiums in Las Vegas and Phoenix also use grass surfaces."Agronomically, natural grass field surfaces are possible everywhere," Tretter said.As of 2020, 17 of 31 NFL stadiums use traditional grass.Tretter's letter comes weeks after the NFL was forced to inspect the artificial turf at MetLife Stadium — home of the Jets and Giants — after several high-profile players were injured in the surface in the opening weeks of the season. Among those hurt during weeks 2 and 3 of the season were 49ers players George Kittle Nick Bosa, Jimmy Garoppolo and Raheem Mostert.In 2015, Houston's NRG Stadium switched from natural grass to an artificial surface after more than a decade amid player criticism over injury concerns.
